A leading insurance firm in Bahrain is seeking a Senior Underwriter/data analyst to evaluate insurance risks and analyze data to support decision-making. The ideal candidate will have 5–8 years of experience in underwriting and strong analytical skills. Responsibilities include assessing policies, data analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The position offers a dynamic role bridging technical underwriting with data-driven insights, focused on improving profitability and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years’ experience in underwriting (motor or general lines) with strong analytical exposure.
  • Experience in insurance data analysis, pricing, or business intelligence.
  • Excellent knowledge of insurance principles, risk assessment, and policy structures.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite individual and fleet policies according to guidelines.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data from claims and underwriting systems.
  • Recommend automation and workflow improvements for underwriting and data tracking.

Seniorwriter/data analyst

The Senior Underwriter/data analyst plays a crucial role in supporting overall performance, efficiency, analyzing data results, evaluate and underwrite insurance risks in accordance with company policies and profitability targets while leveraging data analytics to monitor portfolio performance, detect trends, and support strategic decision‑making.

This position bridges technical underwriting with data‑driven insight, ensuring sound risk selection, loss ratio improvement, and operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • A. Underwriting & Risk Evaluation
    • Assess and underwrite individual and fleet policies in line with Braxtone and insurer guidelines.
    • Analyze policy applications, vehicle data, and client profiles to determine appropriate pricing and coverage terms.
    • Ensure underwriting decisions maintain compliance with company risk appetite and reinsurance requirements.
    • Review loss experience, claims frequency, and trends to adjust underwriting criteria or premiums.
    • Collaborate with brokers and insurance partners to clarify underwriting conditions or exclusions.
    • Recommend risk mitigation actions and re‑underwriting for loss‑making portfolios.
  • B. Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Collect, clean, and analyze data from claims, underwriting, and operations systems.
    • Identify patterns affecting loss ratio, frequency of service, and claim cost by segment or partner.
    • Develop dashboards and reports showing key performance indicators (KPI), including:
      • Loss ratio by product and insurer
      • Average cost per service or claim
      • Policy utilization rates
      • Portfolio growth by partner
    • Support management in quarterly portfolio reviews and pricing model adjustments.
    • Monitor Minimum Deposit (M&D) commitments and insurer performance against service volume targets.
  • C. Process Optimization
    • Recommend automation and workflow improvements for underwriting and data tracking.
    • Work with IT to improve data integration between CRM, claims, and finance systems.
    • Establish quality checks for data accuracy and consistency across departments.
  • D. Compliance & Governance
    • Ensure adherence to underwriting authorities, company policies, and local regulatory standards.
    • Maintain confidentiality of partner and client data.
    • Prepare audit‑ready documentation for internal and external reviews.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Portfolio Loss Ratio maintained below agreed benchmark.
  • Accuracy of underwriting decisions (error rate).
  • Timely delivery of monthly underwriting and performance reports.
  • Reduction in data discrepancies and reporting delays.
  • Improvement in underwriting profitability through data insights.
Educational, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial studies, Business Administration, Statistics.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in underwriting (motor or general lines) with strong analytical exposure.
  • Experience in insurance data analysis, pricing, or business intelligence.
  • Excellent knowledge of insurance principles, risk assessment, and policy structures.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Excel, Power BI, or Tableau for data visualization.
