Job description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TEACHING
  1. Creating an environment of respect and rapport, engaging students actively in their own learning.
  2. Communicating clearly and positively, showing flexibility and responsiveness
  3. Addressing the needs of students with different levels and types of ability
  4. Using prescribed curriculum framework and addressing curricular standards
  5. Using a range and balance of teaching strategies
  6. Utilizing developmentally appropriate instructional strategies
  7. Using a variety of resources for pursuing open-ended inquiry
  8. Building on what students know and their cultural heritage
  9. Maintaining constant awareness of the needs of second language learners
  10. Providing prompt, regular and appropriate feedback to students/parents by maintaining appropriate records for each student
  11. Using technology to optimize learning
PLANNING
  1. Planning collaboratively, based on agreed curriculum framework, standards, and instructional goals.
  2. Creating learning units with the end of mind (backward design)
  3. Involving students in planning their own learning and assessment
  4. Building upon student prior knowledge and experience and accommodating a range of ability levels
  5. Planning the use of varied and appropriate resources
  6. Maintaining accurate records including lesson plans and marks
ASSESSING
  1. Viewing planning, teaching and assessing as interconnected processes
  2. Using a range and balance of assessment strategies and documentation
  3. Assessing the levels of student’s current experience and understanding before embarking on new learning
  4. Enabling students to see assessment as a means of describing their learning and involving students and colleagues in the assessment process
  5. Involving students in shared reflection during and at the end of each unit
  6. Making sure students fully understand how their grades are determined
  7. Writing reports and maintaining records of regular parental contact
  8. Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that the results of assessment provide a link to further curriculum development
STUDENT CARE AND SUPPORT
  1. Providing a safe environment for the student at all times, in and out of the classroom
  2. Efficiently carry out supervision responsibilities
  3. Support the moral, social and emotional development of each child in my care
  4. Ensuring calm and sensible behavior at all times through the application of fair and consistent discipline
  5. Demonstrating positive attitudes of tolerance, respect and integrity by example
  6. Celebrating multicultural and national identities in our community
  7. Seeing that equity is observed in our school and not allowing gender, social status, religious affiliation or race to intrude
  8. Gaining insight in students through communication and partnership with families and colleagues
PROFESSIONAL APPRAISAL AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
  1. Seeking and participating in opportunities for professional growth
  2. Supporting the emphasis on ongoing Professional Learning to further develop knowledge of pedagogy and teaching practice
  3. Complementing the above I am also responsible for willingly sharing ideas and good practice with others and constructive collaboration with colleagues in the curriculum development and review process:
  4. Perform additional duties required by the administration that are consistent with the purposes and responsibilities contained in this job description.
