EXMAR is seeking a Technical Superintendent to reinforce the Shipmanagement Infrastructure team in Antwerp. The role focuses on safe, efficient operations of assets, support for asset conversions, commissioning, and technical oversight in line with statutory and class requirements.

The successful candidate will manage technical projects, guide onboard staff, coordinate budgets, and participate in emergency response. Regular vessel visits and EU-based work eligibility are expected.

Qualifications

• A technical degree in a maritime engineering field or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3+ years in technical project management within the maritime industry or 1 year sailing as second/Chief engineer.
• Knowledge of maritime rules, regulations, machinery, systems, and safe working practices.
• Strong technical expertise in marine systems, electrical and power installations, and maintenance methodologies.
• Ability to manage complex projects with multidisciplinary teams on board and ashore.
• Ability to identify safe, cost-effective solutions in high-pressure situations and align with stakeholders.
• Ability to analyze and anticipate technical problems by coordinating information from multiple sources.
• Willingness to travel with regular vessel visits to stay connected with asset operations.
• Based in Belgium or holding EU work permit.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Responsabilités

• Deliver technical expertise to projects, including vessel conversions and commissioning of new or modified assets.
• Provide daily technical support to assigned assets, overseeing maintenance planning, procurement, corrective actions, and monitoring performance and environmental efficiency.
• Guide and support onboard staff to ensure safe and efficient technical operations, while monitoring performance and development and providing technical instructions to both onboard crew and shore-based teams.
• Ensure assets operate in line with statutory, class and industry requirements, as well as technical standards, including asset inspections.
• Prepare repair specifications, evaluate yard proposals, and coordinate dry-docks as main contact for all stakeholders.
• Promote safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operations and ensure compliance with the Safety Management System.
• Prepare and monitor technical budgets and approve requisitions, purchase orders, and invoices.
• Act as emergency duty manager and participate in the fleet’s emergency response team.
• Lead technical aspects of new assets take-overs and follow up on guarantee claims.

Your role in the team

The Technical Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant day-to-day operations of the assigned assets and assists in the development of new infrastructure projects within the discipline of asset conversion, asset commissioning and overall technical support.

This role technically manages and supports the assigned assets in order to operate them in a safe, technically reliable and efficient condition so to be compliant with statutory and class requirements, applicable rules and standards set by the industry or the client.

The TSI reports to the Head of Fleet Management Infrastructure.

Your responsibilities and tasks include:

• Deliver technical expertise to projects, including vessel conversions and commissioning of new or modified assets;
• Provide daily technical support to assigned assets, overseeing maintenance planning, procurement, corrective actions, and monitoring technical performance and environmental efficiency.
• Guide and support onboard staff to ensure safe and efficient technical operations, while monitoring performance and development and providing technical instructions to both onboard crew and relevant shore-based teams;
• Ensure assets operate in line with statutory, class and industry requirements, as well as technical standards, both set by the company and owner, including executing asset inspections;
• Prepare repair specifications, evaluate yard proposals, and coordinate dry-docks as main contact person for all stakeholders;
• Promote safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operations and ensure compliance with the Safety Management System.
• Prepare and monitor technical budgets and approve requisitions, purchase orders, and invoices;

Your profile

• You hold a technical degree (e.g. Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field), or have equivalent experience gained through years of hands-on work in the maritime industry
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical project management position in the maritime industry or 1 year sailing experience as a second engineer or Chief engineer;
• Good knowledge of maritime rules and regulations, maritime machinery and systems and safe working practices.
• Strong technical expertise and understanding of marine systems, electrical, and power installations, as well as maintenance methodologies;
• Ability to manage complex technical projects with a multidisciplinary team on board and ashore;
• Ability to identify the safest, most cost-effective solution in high-pressure situations (e.g. emergencies) and ensure clear alignment with all stakeholders;
• Ability to analyse and anticipate for technical problems by coordinating information from multiple sources;
• You are flexible with regards to travelling; with regular vessel visits to stay connected to the operational reality of your assets.
• You are based in Belgium or hold a work permit that is valid in the EU;
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
