Job description

About the role

For this position, fluent Dutch is a prerequisite.

Jan De Nul Group is aware that its activities, dredging and offshore, often take place in environments that are very sensitive ecologically. The in-house marine environmental department (Marine Environmental Department or MARED) therefore monitors projects during each project phase, anywhere in the world. This specifically for environmental impacts related to dredging processes and offshore construction works. High-tech equipment provides high end measurements. In addition to monitoring biodiversity, new methods are preventively sought to minimize negative impacts and make positive contributions to ecosystems.

What you’ll do

Your duties and responsibilities as a Site Engineer are:

  • Follow up on environmental requirements and general environmental policy at project level, with specific attention to management measures.
  • Perform environmental studies (monitoring) linked to the dredging processes and offshore works.
  • Processing and interpreting the data obtained and clearly reporting the results.
  • Formulating proposals to optimize work processes and measurement methods based on observations and conclusions of reports.
  • Taking care of measuring equipment (installation, maintenance and inventory).
  • Coordination and interface management of specific subcontractors.
What do you need?

You are a bioengineer, industrial engineer, biologist, geologist or geographer. Experience is a plus, but school leavers are more than welcome! You have an interest in the marine world and are motivated to follow the latest techniques and evolutions in environmental monitoring. As an expat on one of our global projects, you will work within a different work regime. This usually includes two months of 12-hour work days, six days a week, followed by one month off. This work regime may vary depending on the project.
