Sompo is hiring a Senior Financial Lines Underwriter in Belgium & Netherlands to contribute to profitable growth of the Financial Lines book. Based in Brussels, you’ll source, underwrite, price, and market submissions while managing client and broker relationships across Belgium and the Netherlands.

You will build a balanced book, analyze terms, negotiate contracts, and travel as needed to broker meetings. Dutch and English are required; French a plus.

Qualifications

• A recognised qualification in law, economics, finance and/ or IT engineering.
• 5+ years in Financial Lines and Cyber Insurance underwriting.
• Experience building and growing a profitable Financial Lines and Cyber Insurance book in Europe.
• Disciplined underwriting approach.
• Knowledge of Financial Lines markets, regulation and products.
• Excellent networking with clients and brokers in Belgium and Netherlands.
• Analytical, energetic, meticulous, self-starter with a strong work ethic.
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
• Willingness to travel and provide top service quality.
• Dutch and English at working level; French is a plus.

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Financial Lines Underwriter – Belgium & Netherlands in our Financial Lines team.
The Senior Financial Lines Underwriter will be contributing to the growth and development of a book of profitable and diversified Financial Lines insurance business. This new hire is aligned with the anticipated growth of the Financial Lines segment in 2027 and reflects the strategic direction of our team. As we aim to position ourselves as a leading company in the market, this role will play a key part in delivering superior service to stakeholders, and setting ourselves apart from competitors.

What you’ll be doing:

• Contribution to growth and profitability (bottom line) of Sompo International’s portfolio by sourcing submissions, underwriting, pricing, marketing, and managing Financial Lines Insurance business and territories with the goals of maximizing the expected profitability and risk-adjusted return on capital.
• Manage existing relationships with clients and brokers while also developing new business opportunities.
• Contribute to build a well-diversified and balanced book in terms of risk profile and segmentation.
• Analyse underwriting information and ensure appropriate terms and conditions are secured and aligned with our underwriting guidelines.
• Perform contract negotiation, attending and travelling to brokers meetings and conducting underwriting reviews.
• Proactively promote the Sompo footprint and increase our recognition in Belgium and Netherlands.
• Cross sell other Sompo International Specialty Lines products, in particular identifying insurance needs that evolve out of an insured transaction.

What You’ll Bring

• A recognised qualification in law, economics, finance and/ or IT engineering.
• 5 years + in Financial Lines and Cyber Insurance underwriting.
• Experience in building and growing a profitable Financial Lines and Cyber Insurance book in the European markets.
• Proven disciplined approach to underwriting.
• Knowledge of the Financial Lines Insurance markets, regulation and products
• Excellent networking skills and relationships with clients and brokers in Belgium and Netherlands.
• Analytical, energetic, creative, meticulous, driven, determined self-starter, smart, hardworking, resilient, ambitious, good team player
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills
• Flexibility and willingness to travel and offer top service quality
• Dutch and English at working level. French is a plus.
