IATA Brussels is seeking a Senior Manager for EU Affairs to reinforce visibility and influence among EU Institutions. The role focuses on sustainability, customs, drones, and digital policy, reporting to the Director of European Affairs in Brussels.

You will build networks with Parliament, Council, and Commission, convey IATA’s views with data, and support policy positions. Travel is required; a university degree in related fields is expected.

Qualifications

  • University degree in law, economics, political science or international relations.
  • Thorough knowledge of EU Institutions decision making processes.
  • 5+ years' work experience in airline/association/regulator or EU Institution.
  • Knowledge of aviation issues such as decarbonization and climate.
  • Excellent English written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel.

Responsabilités

  • Support development of IATA positions and policy asks.

About the team you are joining

Reporting to the Director of European Affairs and working at IATA Brussels office, the incumbent candidate will contribute to reinforcing IATA's visibility and influence among EU Institutions, enhancing its ability to represent the interests of the airline industry, and influencing the relevant EU policy decisions. We strive to do that in a respectful, credible and trustworthy manner.
A non-exhaustive list of areas that the Senior Manager for EU Affairs will cover include sustainability and customs and trade as well as drones and digital policy.

What your day would be like

Develop a close working relationship with key decision makers in the EU institutions (Parliament, Council and Commission) at appropriate levels.

Establish a two-way channel of communication with key policy makers at the appropriate level in order to convey IATA views, provide industry facts and figures, and constructively support the development of well calibrated policy positions.

Support the development of IATA positions and proactively position IATA policy asks among key decision makers.

Analyze EU policy proposals and trends and collate information related to their regulatory processes affecting our industry.

Liaise and coordinate with the Brussels, Geneva, and Madrid teams, under the supervision of the Director.


We would love to hear from you if

University degree, ideally in Law, Economics, Political Science, International Relations or Politics, and Economics.

Thorough knowledge of the EU Institutions decision making processes. An existing network of contacts in the EU Institutions would be a plus; the ability to create one, a must.

Minimum five years’ work experience in an airline, an association or air transport regulator (Civil Aviation Authority, ECAC), or at an EU Institution or in external affairs and/or corporate advocacy in other sectors.

Knowledge and experience in aviation issues (such decarbonization and climate, noise reduction, customs reform and biometrics) would be an asset.

Strong interpersonal and networking skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment. A strong team spirit is crucial.

Ability to write concise and clear policy analysis. Sharp analytical skills, discretion, ability to listen and create trustworthy relations with colleagues and stakeholders.

Excellent oral presentation skills.

Excellent written and spoken English is a must. Knowledge of other official EU languages would be an advantage.
