Catalyx is seeking a Senior Machine Vision Engineer in Belgium to lead design, development, and deployment of custom machine vision systems within industrial automation projects.

You will work with engineering teams, vendors, and customers to ensure production-ready solutions and compliance with standards. The role requires travel and possibly evening/weekend hours to align with project needs.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Computer Engineering (vision preferred).
• Willingness to work evenings/weekends and varying patterns as needed.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsabilités

• Define the scope of machine vision projects with customers and sales leadership.
• Design optical configurations to meet inspection requirements in target environments.
• Perform sample tests and POCs to verify designs.
• Own the design and development of machine vision systems for custom projects.
• Develop specs and BOMs for machine vision systems.
• Oversee equipment assessment, ordering and verification to meet customer needs.
• Ensure designs align with Catalyx and industry standards.
• Support development, testing and installation to ensure production readiness.
• Serve as primary technical contact for machine vision design and risk evaluation.
• Act as escalation point for vision issues during build, install and warranty phases.
• Work with SLA support on rotating weekly schedule.
• Assist in procurement, training, and technical meetings with sales.

Job Summary: As a Machine Vision Systems Engineer, you will be at the front end of the design, development, and deployment of custom machine vision systems within industrial automation projects. You will be responsible for ensuring these systems meet all technical specifications, adhere to industry standards, and satisfy customer requirements. This role requires close collaboration with engineering teams, vendors, and customers to deliver high‑quality, production‑ready solutions.

• Work with customers and sales leadership to define the scope of machine vision projects.
• Design the optical configurations for meeting inspection requirements within the constraints of the target environment.
• Perform sample testing and POC’s to verify designs.
• Take ownership of the design and development of machine vision systems for custom industrial automation projects.
• Conceptualize, design, and confirm technical specifications and bills of material for machine vision systems.
• Provide oversight for equipment assessment, ordering, and verification, ensuring that final hardware and software meet customer needs.
• Ensure that designs align with Catalyx and industry standards and meet all specified requirements.
• Oversee and support the development, testing, and installation phases, ensuring systems are production‑ready and meet design specifications.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for machine vision system design, providing guidance in risk evaluation and technical matters.
• Act as the escalation point for machine vision‑related issues during the build, installation, and warranty phases.
• Be part of our SLA support team, working in a rotating weekly schedule to assist our customers.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on procurement, training, and upskilling, and assist in sales technical meetings as needed.
• Meet with vendors to confirm component selection and stay informed on new technologies in machine vision and control systems.
• Analyze existing procedures, suggest improvements, and support the creation of design and technical documentation.
• Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution (vision component preferred)
• Availability to work evening and weekend hours or varying work patterns depending on project needs.
• Availability to travel domestically and internationally.
• Required Skills
• Experience with front‑end GUI development using Cognex Designer and data management, preferably in SQL.
• Proven experience in designing and developing machine vision systems within industrial automation (robot guidance experience is a plus)
• Experience with existing Machine Vision Platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, OpenCV or Tensorflow (Cognex platform preferred)
• Experience implementing projects in a regulated/validated environment is desired.
• Strong knowledge of object‑oriented programming languages and machine vision technologies (C#, C++ or Python preferred)
• Experience with AI Neural Networks, 3D Imaging and Metrology Inspections (Cognex ViDi Deep Learning preferred)
• Advanced understanding and knowledge of computer vision solutions and principles including image acquisition, optics, lighting, algorithm development, object detection, segmentation, and recognition, AI neural networks, 3D imaging, and metrology inspections
• Fluent in English, Dutch and/or French. Ideally have a knowledge of German
