XEOS is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer / Hardware Lead in Ghent to own the complete hardware platform of our intraoperative imaging system. You’ll drive hardware architecture, DHF, and lifecycle from requirements through verification, working with partners and contract manufacturers.
This hands-on role values systems thinking, ownership, and the ability to push innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance. You’ll mentor the hardware team as we grow and help shape future AURA platforms.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years hardware engineering in high-reliability environments.
- Experience in mixed-signal PCB design and signal integrity.
- Hardware-firmware interface design experience (embedded, FPGA, MCU).
- Systems engineering mindset with requirements, traceability and verification.
- Python for data analysis, hardware characterization or test automation.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Based in Belgium and willing to work on-site in Ghent.
Responsabilités
- Own DHF for AURA 10 and future platforms, ensuring full traceability from requirements through V&V under ISO 13485 design controls.
- Lead electronics design and review (mixed-signal PCB, PET readout electronics, power, embedded hardware-firmware interface).
- Own hardware bring-up, developing Python-based test and characterization scripts to validate readout electronics and detector performance.
- Define and execute hardware verification and validation plans; coordinate with the QMS and regulatory affairs function.
- Own the technical relationship with our engineering partners and contract manufacturers, including supplier audits, design reviews, and continuous improvement.
- Support hardware-related quality processes, risk management and regulatory compliance, contribute to BSI audit readiness.
- Work closely with the CTO on the hardware architecture of future AURA platforms.
- Support technical due diligence, grant applications and strategic innovation projects.
- In the future: participate in hiring decisions and mentoring as the hardware team grow.

You’ll become the technical owner of our hardware platform. You’ll ensure the continued reliability of AURA 10 while driving the development of future hardware platforms and generations in our technology. From requirements and architecture through verification, validation and Design History Files, you’ll own the complete hardware lifecycle. You’ll lead the technical relationship with our engineering partners and contract manufacturers, driving quality, manufacturing readiness and continuous improvement. Working closely with our team, you lay the foundation for hardware: a high-output individual contributor today, while establishing the processes and engineering culture that will support the growth of hardware tomorrow. - Own the hardware design history file (DHF) for AURA 10 and future AURA platforms, ensuring full traceability from requirements through V&V under ISO 13485 design controls

On Monday, you're reviewing PCB layouts and discussing production yield improvements with a manufacturing partner. Tuesday is spent defining verification strategies for a new hardware feature and aligning with software engineers on an embedded interface. Later that week, you're reviewing supplier performance, updating design documentation for regulatory compliance or evaluating new detector technologies together with the CTO. On Friday, we wrap up the week together during our Weekly Dose, where we celebrate wins, share company updates and end the week as one team. No two weeks are the same, and that's exactly what makes this role exciting.
You combine technical depth with ownership. You naturally ask "How can we build this better?" instead of "Who's responsible for this?" You're someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering challenges, takes initiative and isn't afraid to make decisions. Technically confident but intellectually humble and willing to build expertise on the job (PET physics, for example).
You also bring:
- Systems thinker - you see how electronics, mechanics, firmware, and software interact, and don’t optimize one subsystem at the expense of another
- A rigorous engineering mindset where documentation is part of engineering—not an afterthought
- A proactive attitude, flag issues early, and a direct communicator
- The confidence to challenge suppliers while remaining collaborative and have hard conversations
- Intellectual curiosity and the willingness to continuously learn
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years of hardware engineering experience, preferably in high-reliability or high-precision environments.
- Mixed-signal electronics design experience: PCB schematic capture, layout review, signal integrity, power design
- Hardware-firmware interface design experience (embedded systems, FPGA or MCU peripherals)
- A systems engineering mindset with experience in requirements, traceability and verification & validation.
- Python for data analysis, hardware characterization or test automation.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken)

- Based in Belgium and willing to work on-site in Ghent
- Experience working in a design-controlled environment (ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971 or equivalent) - design history files, change control, risk management documentation
- Experience managing suppliers or contract manufacturers at a technical level: leading technical reviews, defining acceptance criteria, and holding suppliers accountable
- Experience in medical devices, scientific instrumentation, aerospace or another high-reliability industry.
- Experience with PET, gamma detection, SiPM / photodetector readout, or scintillation-based imaging systems or with
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, IEC 62304 and/or ISO 14971.
- Experience with CT or X-ray imaging systems.
- Dutch (working language at some suppliers)
- PhD or advanced specialization in detector physics, instrumentation or medical imaging.
- Previous experience in a scale-up environment.
