Sphere Defense in Brussels is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead development of autonomous countermeasures. You will own Linux-based embedded systems, implement high-performance software for sensing, processing and actuation, and work closely with hardware to bring-up boards.

The role requires proven experience with C/C++, Python, Yocto, RTOS or bare-metal, and a track record of delivering reliable, low-latency software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or equivalent.
• Proven experience owning complex Linux-based systems.
• Strong C/C++ and Python proficiency.
• Experience with Embedded Linux (Yocto) and bare-metal/RTOS.
• Experience with device drivers and user-space apps development; lab bring-up.
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD processes.
• System design for multi-processor architectures.
• Sensor integration experience (cameras, IMUs, rangefinders).
• Excellent English; French or Dutch a plus.
• Self-starter in high-ambiguity environments.

• Design, develop and test high-performant and reliable embedded software systems that encompass sensing, processing and actuation with low latency
• Together with the hardware team, bring-up boards and systems, ensuring that all intended functional and performance requirements are met
• Troubleshoot and debug problems, ensuring that issues are addressed as they appear
• Establish CI/CD pipelines, focusing on QA aspects
• Be a team player and a mentor, being available to support the team when needed

About You

You are an experienced and highly-motivated Senior Embedded Software Engineer that has worked with Embedded Linux Systems on MPUs, bare-metal and RTOSs on MCUs and is experienced with building highly reliable embedded, mission-critical systems. Ideally, you have worked with flying robots.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience in the role, owning complex systems based on Linux
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
• Experience with Embedded Linux (Yocto) and bare-metal/RTOS embedded systems
• Experience with Device Drivers and User-Space Embedded Applications developmentExperience with lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, etc.) for board bring-up and debug
• Experience with implementing and maintaining CI/CD processes
• Proficient with System Design, designing complex, multi-processor systems
• Experience integrating sensors such as cameras, IMUs, rangefinders, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills in written and spoken English; French or Dutch is a plus
• You are a self-starter, able to work in a high-ambiguity environment and willing to take up new challenges

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the PX4 Flight Controller or other flight controllers
• Proficient in Rust
• Experience with Qualcomm, NVIDIA or Ambarella chipsets
• Experience with server communication (REST, gRPC, etc.)
• Experience with cameras and image sensors
• Experience with Mobile Apps integration (BLE, WiFi)
