Job summary

Agfa-Gevaert in Belgium seeks a Senior Chemist for our Chemical Process Development group to design, develop and scale-up chemical processes enabling new materials.

You will lead multiple research projects, organize lab work, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to transfer processes to production. Occasional travel (~10%) and a strong emphasis on safety and environmental standards are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Organic and/or polymer Chemistry or related field.
• PhD is an asset.
• Strong communication and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (+/- 10%).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop chemical processes that are technically feasible, cost-efficient and scalable towards industrial production.
• Define experimental programs and ensure a structured and data-driven approach.
• Organize and oversee laboratory work, including experimental planning, execution, analysis and reporting of results.
• Implement innovative technologies for scale-up from laboratory to industrial scale.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support process transfer to production.
• Manage multiple projects and ensure clear stakeholder communication.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards, inline with our Agfa processes and standards.

We are looking for a motivated Senior Chemist in our Chemical Process Development (CPD) group to strengthen our Materials Technology Centre. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development and scale-up of chemical processes that enable the production of innovative materials for a wide range of applications.

The Chemical Process Development group (CPD) is a key part of the Materials Technology Centre, representing the core of our chemical expertise with over 150 years of innovation.

The team plays a crucial role in bridging discovery research and industrial manufacturing by developing robust, scalable and sustainable chemical processes.

As senior chemist you are responsible for managing multiple research projects as well as problem solving of critical cases.

As Senior chemist you have the following Profile

• You hold a Master’s degree in Organic and/or polymer Chemistry or a related field. A PhD is an asset.
• You are proactive, hands-on and enjoy working in a laboratory environment.
• You are a strong communicator and team player in a multidisciplinary setting.
• You are curious and eager to learn, with a strong motivation to deepen your expertise in process technologies and chemical synthesis. Experience with reaction calorimetry is considered an asset.
• You are well organized and able to manage multiple projectsin parallel.
• You speak fluent Dutch and English or are willing to learn to speak Dutch.
• You are willing to travel occasionally for short periods (+/- 10%).
