At Sibelco, we advance life through materials. For over 150 years, we’ve been a trusted leader in sourcing, transforming, and distributing specialty industrial minerals. Our work powers progress across industries as diverse as glass, ceramics, construction, coatings, polymers, and water purification. Beyond our materials, we’re proud of our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and empowering people from all walks of life to thrive and make a meaningful impact.

About the Role

As part of the Technology & Innovation Team in the role of Scientist, you will develop and evaluate low‑carbon construction materials, with a focus on innovative Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) for mortar and concrete applications. We are looking for a hands‑on scientist with expertise in SCMs, cement chemistry, concrete technology, material characterization and standardized testing protocol. You enjoy translating research into practical solutions, collaborating across disciplines, and driving innovation from laboratory development through scale‑up and commercialization.

Your Impact in This Role

You will take the lead in mid to long term Technology & Innovation projects to drive innovation in low‑carbon cements and advanced Supplementary Cementitious Materials. You will play a key role in advancing next‑generation low‑carbon cementitious solutions by combining applied research, experimental testing, data‑driven insights and cross‑functional collaborations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experimental programs, including mix design, DOE development, and performance evaluations.
  • Generate technical insights through data analysis and material characterization to optimize low‑carbon cementitious solutions.
  • Evaluate mechanical, rheological, and durability performance of sustainable concrete systems.
  • Support scale‑up from laboratory research to pilot trials and commercial implementation in collaboration with internal and external partners.
What You Bring To The Table
  • Ideally a PhD in Engineering with Chemistry, Materials Science, Geology or equivalent by experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of practical industrial experience in building materials, cement and concrete or service/consultancy companies in that domain.
  • Proven client interface capabilities.
  • Practical experience in construction applications, as well as good project management skills.
  • Fluent English and ideally Dutch.
  • Right to work in the Netherlands or Europe.
