Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (OBV) is seeking an experienced Rehearsal Director to coach dancers, maintain high artistic standards, and contribute to planning and execution of productions. You will work closely with the Artistic Director, Ballet Manager, choreographers, and other rehearsal directors to guide the company’s evolving repertoire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in ballet and contemporary dance.
• Experience as rehearsal director, teacher or similar artistic leadership.
• Proven coaching experience with professional dancers at high artistic level.
• Excellent knowledge of both ballet and contemporary dance techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Confidence with casting, rehearsal schedules and production planning.
• A collaborative mindset across artistic and production departments.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

To strengthen our artistic team, we are looking for an inspiring and experienced Rehearsal Director .

The Role

As Rehearsal Director, you play a pivotal role in maintaining and developing the artistic quality of the company. Working closely with the Artistic Director, the Ballet Manager, choreographers and fellow rehearsal directors, you will coach and inspire our dancers, ensure the highest standards of rehearsal practice, and contribute to the planning and execution of productions.

This is a position that combines artistic leadership, coaching, production planning and organizational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach daily company classes and coach dancers in both ballet and contemporary repertoire (this can be floor work, partnering, Counter technique, improvisation, contact improvisation, gaga etc.).
• Rehearse, stage and maintain productions to the highest artistic and technical standards.
• Analyse, teach and rehearse choreography, both for new creations and repertoire revivals.
• Take responsibility for preserving choreographic integrity during performance runs, revivals and tours.
• Support and encourage the technical, artistic and professional development of all dancers.
• Monitor dancers' physical and psychological wellbeing in close collaboration with the health team.
• Advise the Artistic Director, Ballet Manager and choreographers during casting sessions, recasts and artistic evaluations.
• Collaborate with the planning department and producers to develop rehearsal and performance schedules.
• Work closely with costume, technical and production departments to ensure smooth production processes.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with choreographers and contribute to the successful realization of each production.
• Stay informed about developments in the international dance field and actively contribute to the artistic growth of the company.

Your Profile

You are an experienced dance professional with a passion for coaching artists and helping them reach their highest potential. You combine artistic sensitivity with strong organizational skills and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. You have strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and are able to motivate and foster a healthy cooperative environment in the studio and with the entire artistic team.

You bring:

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in both ballet and contemporary dance.
• Professional experience as a rehearsal director, teacher or similar artistic leadership position.
• Proven experience coaching professional dancers at the highest artistic level.
• Excellent knowledge of both ballet and contemporary dance techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire and give constructive feedback.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Confidence in working with casting, rehearsal schedules and production planning.
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with colleagues across artistic and production departments..
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when productions require.
