Jobtailor in Belgium seeks a skilled backend engineer to deliver high-quality software from analysis to production. You will write clean Python/Django code, build scalable distributed systems, and optimize PostgreSQL schemas.

You’ll own asynchronous messaging with RabbitMQ/AMQP, ensure idempotent operations, and participate in design discussions. You will mentor teammates, conduct thoughtful code reviews, and uphold engineering standards.

Qualifications

• You live and work in Belgium.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent experience.
• Professional proficiency in Dutch and English.
• Strong experience with Python and Django.
• Experience building distributed systems, including asynchronous messaging (RabbitMQ/AMQP), failure handling and idempotency.
• Solid experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations and query optimization.
• A strong interest in building scalable backend systems.
• A proactive mindset with a passion for solving technical challenges and continuous learning.

• Contribute actively to technical design discussions by proposing solutions, identifying risks and challenging assumptions where appropriate.
• Monitor and support the software you build, taking ownership when issues arise.
• Consistently uphold the team's engineering standards and Definition of Done.
• Identify technical debt and propose improvements with clear context on impact, effort and priority.
• Distinguish between acceptable technical compromises and debt that actively slows down the product.
• Perform thoughtful code reviews that improve both code quality and team knowledge.
