What does a project engineer mechanical do at the Atlas Copco Group in Wilrijk? As a mechanical project engineer in our Energy Conversion Solutions team (Oil-Free Air division), you will follow product development projects from start to finish. You will see products evolve from initial lab prototypes to full-scale manufacturing, working closely with project leaders, local teams, and international facilities in locations such as India and China.
Your daily flow involves specifying, designing, and optimizing mechanical and thermodynamical systems and componentssuch as pumps, piping, coolers, fans, valves, sheet metal, and castings—in 3D CAD. You build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), perform design calculations, conduct risk analyses, and evaluate cost, manufacturability, logistics, and serviceability. Additionally, you define test programs, prepare assembly instructions, follow up on prototype testing, interact with suppliers, and apply international standards (ISO, PED, ASME). You also support production and field installations by troubleshooting quality or performance issues and implementing permanent solutions. You will work via our hybrid model at our facility in Wilrijk.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent through experience
Good proficiency in English; knowledge of Dutch is considered a plus
Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, Inventor, SolidWorks) is a strong advantage
Strong affinity for mechanical design, thermodynamics, structural calculations, and international standards (ISO, PED, ASME)
Ability to set priorities, work independently, and embrace fast iterative design processes
Open, science-backed communicator who builds strong networks across purchasing, production, service, and external suppliers
Hands-on team player with an innovative, growth-oriented mindset, a "can-do" attitude, and a strong sense of ownership
