The vacancy is situated within the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, specifically within the University Centre for Nursing and Midwifery (UCVV). The UCVV is an interdisciplinary centre that combines education, research, and societal outreach in the field of nursing science.
The candidate will take on a key role, providing academic leadership and subject‑matter expertise within the nursing science research group. The responsibilities include leading the UCVV, actively participating in the curriculum committee of the Master’s programme in Nursing and Midwifery, developing an internationally recognised research line on nurse‑led care and advanced practice, and strengthening education and societal service.
The opening of this position is part of a broader restructuring of the academic team within the UCVV. There is a need to reinforce the structural capacity to ensure continuity in education, research, and service. This appointment is essential to realise the strategic ambitions of the department and faculty, and to sustainably anchor nursing science within the university.
You lecture various course units in the discipline of nursing science, with particular focus on advanced nursing practice, leadership, interprofessional learning, and curriculum development within the Master of Science in Nursing and Midwifery programme.
In addition to subject‑specific assignments, you will also take on more generic teaching assignments such as master's theses.
You will be actively involved in education policy and quality assurance, including participation in programme committees and other education support tasks.
You are willing to take on more generic and coordinating teaching tasks within the faculty that go beyond your specific field of expertise.
You conduct innovative and internationally recognised research in the field of nursing science. Your focus lies on implementation research, interprofessional collaboration, role delineation, and the integration of innovation into nursing practices such as nurse‑led care.
Based on your expertise and experience, you will contribute to the university's operations and/or take on external assignments.
You take part in the internal and external service provision of the department of Public Health and Primary Care, amongst others by translating the results of your research to the broader public.
During your career, you are willing to include roles and management positions that are relevant to the department and/or faculty.
You have a strong academic CV with international visibility in the requested field:
Your achievements in the field of research and education contribute to the development of the scientific domain (e.g. publications, presentations, or other academic output);
You possess demonstrable expertise in the core themes of the University Center for Nursing and Midwifery (UCVV), as well as in the broader research and educational domains of the department;
You are capable to initiate and supervise educational and research projects and to acquire the necessary funding for this;
You are didactically skilled to teach university students to develop academic competences;
Mobility is recommended (e.g. education, research, economic, or societal).
You work in a collaborative way and integrate smoothly into the department/faculty. You look for opportunities inside and outside the university and actively use your network to do so. You actively develop collaborations with, among others, the Flemish Centre of Expertise for Nursing at Ghent University Hospital.

If you don't know Dutch, you are willing to learn it. This will be assessed during the selection interview. When taking up a teaching assignment, you must master the language of instruction of the course. We offer you a temporary appointment in a tenure track system for a term of five years. If positively evaluated by the University Board, the term of office will be transferred into a permanent appointment as an associate professor.
Should you already be a member of the professorial staff or hold an equal post at a university or research institution, you can immediately be appointed as an assistant professor, without prejudice to the possibility of a temporary appointment.

a trial lesson on a subject in the relevant field
a screening of leadership and interpersonal skills
a vision and ambition document
in the evaluation, the complementarity of expertise and the compatibility of the profile within the department and faculty play an important role
You hold a thesis‑based doctorate in health sciences or a diploma in or certificate that is recognised as equivalent in the field of nursing science.
You have at least two years of postdoctoral experience on 1 September 2026. This term of two years is determined by the date mentioned on the required diploma.
Your application meets the formal requirements (submitted on time, complete: with a completed application form and a copy of the diploma, delivered via e‑recruitment).

In the field ‘Certificate of equivalence’: only for diplomas awarded outside the European Union: certificate of equivalence (NARIC ) (if already in you possession). For diplomas awarded in the UK before January 31st of 2020, a certificate of equivalence is not required.
