Astek Belgium is seeking a Process Engineer to strengthen IMP production site design at Alleur and St Pieters Leeuw, joining our pharma-focused consulting team.

You will analyze physical, human, and information flows, identify risks and bottlenecks, and design end-to-end workflows aligned with GMP/ISO 9001 standards; you will also draft the roadmap for a new site with capacity for up to 20,000 patients.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in industrial, biotech, supply chain, or related field.
• 5–8+ years as Senior Consultant in IMP/Pharma, lean optimization and flows.
• Experience in GMP/regulated environments; ISO 9001 knowledge.

Responsabilités

Process Engineer – IMP Production Sites

About the Role

Our client is a major healthcare player in Belgium, operating more than 300 pharmacies, a semi-automated distribution center, and two production sites dedicated (Alleur & St Pieters Leeuw) to Individual Medication Preparation (IMP), a key component of pharmaceutical care for residents of nursing homes. To strengthen the quality of its production areas and design a robust, structured Quality Management System end-to-end, our client is looking for an experienced Process Engineer to act as external consultant on this mission.

It is an onsite position where you will be going to Alleur and St Pieters Leeuw 50/50, no remote possibility in the first months.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze physical, human, and informational flows across both IMP production sites
• Identify process risks, bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and sensitive areas (cross-contamination, mix-up, production errors)
• Design and propose optimized, end-to-end workflows aligned with quality and regulatory standards
• Identify, document, and implement quick-wins and re-organization of work areas
• Design a 'blue sky' blueprint for a new IMP production site with a capacity of up to 20,000 patients
• Report regularly to Management and to the Project Manager of the project

Main Activities

• Study interactions between work areas (reception, storage, quality control, expedition) and draw a full map of workflows
• Develop a detailed risk matrix and analysis report, and identify the KPIs needed across the different workflows
• Propose logical, continuous, and traceable workflows integrating lean principles (5S) to reduce errors and crossings
• Provide visuals and documentation covering layout, zoning, and flow separation for the reorganized work areas
• Define an implementation roadmap with prioritization, action plan, and flow-related KPIs (e.g. lead time)
• Define requirements to achieve and maintain ISO 9001 (and other relevant quality) certifications
• Define the size, workstation blueprint, and infrastructure requirements (climatological, electricity, specific workstations) for the future site
• Define Business Continuity Planning requirements, including downtime, free production capacity, and minimal workforce capacity
• Define quality control, data capture, reporting, and workforce skills/competencies requirements for the future site

Required Qualifications

• Engineering degree (industrial, biotechnology, supply chain, or related field)
• Senior Consultant profile (5–8+ years) with strong expertise in production area design (IMP, Pharma), lean/industrial optimization and continuous improvement, and logistics or pharmaceutical production flows
• Experience in regulated ecosystems and/or GMP production environments
• Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 9001, GMP/GDP, and IMP regulation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in French and Dutch (English is an advantage)
• Excellent skills in the Microsoft Office suite, with strong documentation, analytical, and reporting abilities
• Diplomacy, pedagogy, and the ability to challenge constructively
• Ability to work transversally, with rigor and attention to detail, across both production sites in Belgium
