Octave is seeking a Principal C++ Engineer to lead the Qt-based UI layer of our CAD program in Ghent. The role combines architectural leadership with hands-on coding, code reviews, and cross‑functional collaboration.

You will mentor teammates, participate in Agile ceremonies, and help deliver robust, scalable UI solutions across Linux/MacOS/Windows platforms, in a dynamic international setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience with C++ or equivalent OO language.
• Familiarity with Qt/QML is a plus or willingness to learn.

We are looking for a Principal C++ Engineer to join our Qt Development Team. The team is responsible for the UI layer architecture of our CAD program.

Location: Ghent, Belgium. Workplace: Hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Architect and oversee the architecture of our Qt code base
• Review code to ensure consistency and promote clean code principles and design patterns
• Mentor less experienced team members
• Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (stand‑ups, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives)
• Plan and execute work independently and reliably

Technical Expertise

• 5+ years of professional experience with C++ (Qt/QML knowledge a plus)
• Translate technical requirements into fully functional end products
• Passion for code quality, with experience in TDD a plus
• Comfortable working with legacy code
• Contribute technical expertise across team tasks
• Collaborate to streamline delivery processes using industry best practices
• Produce both detailed technical work and high‑level architectural designs

Qualifications

• Team‑first mindset and collaboration
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Extensive experience in C++ or other object‑oriented languages
• Proficiency in Qt/QML or willingness to learn
