A prestigious university in Belgium is offering a one-year postdoctoral research position in mathematical statistics. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing innovative statistical methodologies for contemporary data structures, with particular focus on non-Euclidean spaces. Candidates should possess a relevant doctoral degree, a keen interest in statistical foundations, and computation skills in languages such as R or Python. This role promises a stimulating international research environment and opportunities for professional growth.
KU Leuven is an autonomous university. It was founded in 1425. It was born of and has grown within the Catholic tradition.
Within the framework of research projects on Statistical Inference for Contemporary data structures (including directional data), we have a vacancy for a one-year postdoctoral position in Statistics.
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a very active research group in mathematical statistics, consisting of members of the research group ORSTAT at the Faculty of Economics and Business, and members of the section Statistics and Risk, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science.
The candidate will take part in a research project contributing to the development of new statistical methodologies for contemporary data structures to tackle challenging research questions. The considered data structures include, in particular, data belonging to non-Euclidean spaces (data on a simplex, data on a circle, a hypersphere, a torus, ...). Flexible modelling and inference methods focus on avoiding making too restrictive assumptions, often requiring semiparametric or nonparametric inference techniques.
You will find a very dynamic and pleasant working environment, where research is conducted at the highest international level, with a large international research network.
(i) A letter of motivation with statements on research interests and skills.
(iii) Names and contact information of 2–3 references (these persons will be potentially contacted for providing reference letters).
