CONTEXT
In the framework of the study TELEMED, we are looking for a full-time researcher in Life Sciences with a Master’s degree in Medicine (MD).
The Royal Military Academy is fully recognized as a university, fulfilling the same criteria as civilian universities. The RMA is also conducting scientific research at university level for projects funded by the Belgian Defense department or external sources.

PROJECT
You work within the research unit VIPER, at the Department LIFE of the Faculty of Social and Military Sciences of the RMA and in close collaboration with the Emergency Department of the UZ Brussel and the research unit REGEDIM of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. You conduct scientific research at university level regarding the implementation of telemedicine in operational conditions.
MAIN TASKS
- Field data collection, which may impose rustic living conditions and travel abroad
- Clinical work
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Writing of scientific papers
- Project management.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Degree(s) required / ideal degree(s): MD + MaNaMa/DES (postgraduate) in Emergency Medicine, or General Practice with at least 5 years’ experience in emergency medicine or remote environments
This position is open for experienced profiles (minimum 3 years of experience)
MUST HAVE skills:
- Experience in extra-hospital first response medicine.
- International experience.
- Experience with telemedicine.
- Demonstrable knowledge of literacy in research methodology.
- Mastery of English and either French or Dutch.
NICE TO HAVE skills:
- Training or experience in humanities (sociology/psychology/anthropology/law)
- Outdoor experience and a physical fitness level allowing for field measurements in rustic environments (sleeping tents, carrying a backpack, on board military vessels).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- The researcher may be exposed to classified information and will therefore have to obtain the required security clearance. The candidate must consent with the background check required to obtain this clearance, which will be executed by Belgian Defense.
- Only applicants with a nationality of a country that is both part of NATO and the EU will be eligible.
- Working for the Patrimony requires living in Belgium for the duration of the study.

CONTRACT
- Probable date of recruitment: From December 1st, 2026, in consultation with the applicant.
- Status: Full-time employment based on an open-ended contract with the Patrimony of the Royal Military Academy (you will not be a civil servant).
