Energy Cities is seeking a Policy and Mayors’ voice coordinator to shape strategy and implement policy outcomes across EU and national levels. You will build visibility for local leaders, coordinate elected members’ activities, and translate advocacy into concrete actions for the policy team.

You will also lead policy tasks in projects about financing local transitions, monitor EU and national policies, and represent Energy Cities in Commission meetings and high level events.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in policy, engineering, economy/finance, sustainable energy & climate, or sustainable urban development & planning.

Responsabilités

  • You will coordinate the Board and elected members’ activities and organise high level debates with decision makers.
  • Ensure members’ priorities inform policy work and translate advocacy into concrete actions for the policy team.
  • Produce briefings on EU policy developments for the Board, members and partners.
  • Lead policy tasks within projects related to financing local transitions and monitor EU and national policies.
  • Represent Energy Cities in meetings with the European Commission and at high level conferences.

Contract: Close-ended (CDD), full-time

Working time: 38h/week (Belgium)

Duration: 24 months

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Policy and Mayors’ voice coordinator who will:

  • Contribute to the development and the implementation of Energy Cities’ strategy in concrete policy outcomes
  • Build visibility of local leaders, strengthen the mutual learnings and sense of community of elected representatives across our membership
  • Influence narratives at national and European levels to achieve our mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be in charge of:

  • Coordinating the Board and elected members activities (high level debates with key decision makers, inspirational sessions at our annual forum, set up of Communities of Practice of elected people)
  • Ensuring members’ priorities and expertise inform the organisation’s policy work
  • Supporting in the coordination and implementation of our policy priorities and objectives, translating the organisation’s advocacy agenda into concrete actions for the policy team – Solid across policy areas
  • Producing briefings and papers on EU policy developments to update the Board, Energy Cities members and partners
  • Leading policy tasks and deliverables in the framework of projects that Energy Cities is/will be involved with in the field of financing local transitions
  • Monitoring and influencing EU and national policies, related to financing local transitions, by developing policy analysis and narratives, participating in advocacy activities with different stakeholders, and organising impactful events
  • Representing Energy Cities in meetings with the European Commission and other EU institutions, as well as at high-level conferences, workshops, expert groups, and public events
  • Developing project proposals to deliver on policies activities.

You will also have the opportunity to actively participate on Energy Cities’ membership activities, especially for the organisation of the Board and the Annual forum (elected representatives’ programme). You will set up partnerships with other cities networks association, especially at national level (by further developing and consolidating our national memberships).

You will participate, as every team member in the development of the organisation to make Energy Cities a better place to work (e.g. development of organisational tools and process, greening and teleworking policies, etc.).

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required qualifications and experience
  • A master’s degree in one of the following areas: policy, engineering, economy/finance, sustainable energy & climate, sustainable urban development & planning or similar.
  • Solid advocacy experience at EU level (At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience).
  • Experience and knowledge in urban transition, energy systems and EU programmes.
  • Interest in system change approaches (governance issues, transition management, stakeholders and citizen engagement, urban and energy planning, policies and financial instruments, etc.)

Knowledge of EU policies, challenges and solutions for the local transition, and local authorities’ strategies will be positively evaluated.

Required skills
  • Excellent level of English (C level - CEFR)
  • Independent user (B level) of other EU languages is considered a plus
  • Great writing & analytical skills to develop and argument political positions in clear and concise texts
  • Excellent organisational skills and capacity to work autonomously
  • Ability to take initiative and a proactive approach to improve what exists and address issues and barriers
  • Ability to engage and work with stakeholders
  • Good negotiating skills and capacity to present our priorities in a convincing manner
  • Ability to work in an international and intercultural team and environment
