Job summary

The lab of Prof. Emanuela Pasciuto and Prof. Sarah Weckhuysen at the VIB-UA Center For Molecular Neurology invites applications for a full-time doctoral scholarship in Neuroimmunology.

You will prepare and defend a PhD thesis, design a research plan with your supervisors, and conduct research with human samples and animal disease models. The role includes reporting progress, presenting at conferences, and pursuing internal or external funding.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field, by appointment.
• Master's degree or equivalent obtained not earlier than 1 February 2026.
• Eligible to apply for a FWO fellowship.
• Solid background in immunology and/or genetics is an advantage.
• Evidence of excellent study results.
• FELASA-B certificate and experience with rodents.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and defend a PhD thesis in Biomedical Sciences.
• Develop research plan with supervisors and manage administration for PhD.
• Conduct research to high quality standards.
• Report progress to supervisors and committees and present at conferences.
• Work with human samples and animal models of disease.
• Defend thesis publicly and aim for publication.
• Contribute to existing research projects beyond own PhD work.
• Compete for internal or external predoctoral funding.
