The Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering at the University of Antwerp invites applications for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of machine learning for circular polyurethane design. The PhD will focus on developing models to predict recyclability and energy requirements for polyurethane formulations, with close collaboration across chemistry, engineering and MD experts.

Qualifications

• Master degree in chemistry/chemical engineering/polymer sciences or chemoinformatics.
• Evidence of excellent study results is expected.
• Good knowledge of English (oral and written).

Responsabilités

• Prepare and defend a PhD thesis in ML for circular polyurethane design.
• Develop ML models linking molecular structure to properties and energy costs for techno-economic assessment.
• Collaborate with quantum chemists, reaction engineers, MD specialists and experimentalists.
• Draw up a research plan with supervisor(s) and manage administrative tasks for PhD.
• Apply for internal/external predoctoral funding and present research at conferences.
