Ghent University’s IDLab invites applications for a doctoral fellow in the DECIDE research team. The role focuses on advancing Vision-Language-Action and world models for robot navigation and multi-step tasks, with emphasis on optimizations for embedded deployment.

We offer a full-time doctoral fellowship for up to 48 months starting 01/11/2026, with a net salary aligned to AAP member scales, extensive training and benefits; you will publish in top conferences and supervise theses.

Qualifications

• European master's degree in computer science or AI with honors.
• Strong background in deep learning.
• Experience with robotics, world models, RL or ML-based robot control is a plus.
• Excellent CS skills: Python, Git, Linux, ROS.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret results.
• Team player with strong communication skills.
• Fluent English (C1); Dutch is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Investigate and extend state-of-the-art robot control models (VLA and world models).
• Apply work to real-world use cases and publish findings.
• Supervise bachelor and master theses related to the project.
• Collaborate within the DECIDE team to advance navigation and multi-step task execution.
