Toyota Motor Europe R&D Centre in Zaventem, Belgium, invites you to join the Material Engineering team to validate and improve plastic, textile, paint and metal materials and parts across vehicle projects.

You will evaluate properties, support engineers, conduct CAE analyses with ANSA and ABAQUS, and help advance sustainable, low-carbon materials in line with Toyota's 2050 environmental goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in a science field or equivalent experience in a laboratory environment.
• Familiar with material and chemical analytical techniques, with hands-on working style.
• Willingness to combine hands-on tasks with digitalization towards our future development scheme.

Responsabilités

• Validate plastic, textile, paint and metal materials and parts for heat, humidity, impact and vibration resistance.
• Evaluate mechanical and chemical properties such as tensile modulus, strength, VOC, adhesion and resistance to aging.
• Support ME engineers to determine root cause and proposed countermeasures in case of failure.
• Conduct CAE for early-stage assessment of part performance using ANSA and ABAQUS.
• Perform material analysis (Microscopy, FTIR, chemical analysis) to support root cause analysis.
• Propose process improvements for operational safety, quality and efficiency.

Toyota Motor Europe R&D Centre is responsible for:

• Developing vehicles and making concept proposals for European core models.
• Reflecting EU technologies to Toyota vehicles timely by utilizing a location advantage and a strong network with European partners.

The Material Engineering division (ME) is part of the R&D group at Toyota Motor Europe Technical Center in Zaventem, Belgium. By utilization of wide and deep material knowledge as well as evaluation & analysis capability, its mission is to conduct research, to develop and to introduce attractive & environment-friendly materials.

The technician team is responsible for supporting the development of paint, adhesive materials, metal, seat cover materials (fabrics, artificial and genuine leather) as well as interior and exterior plastic trim materials by performing some evaluation in TME to ensure developed or predeveloped materials are satisfied with the Toyota quality expectation toward vehicle projects. YOUR ROLE

Validation of Plastic, Textile, Paint and Metal Materials and Parts

• Evaluate materials: Mechanical and chemical properties
  • Tensile modulus & Strength, Charpy impact, VOC, smell, adhesion, water, chemical resistance, chipping performance, fogging
  • Other long-term aging related to vehicle environment (heat, humidity, chemical & light exposure…)
• Evaluate parts according to Toyota requirements for their resistance to heat, humidity, impact and vibration on actual vehicles and report to engineers.
• Support ME engineers and designers to determine root cause and evaluate possible countermeasures in case of failure.
• Conduct CAE for early-stage assessment of part performance (software: ANSA, ABAQUS) to feedback to design functions prior to part drawing completion.
• Conduct critical reflection and propose improvement on processes for operational safety, quality and efficiency.
• In case of field concern, conduct material analysis (Microscopy, FTIR, Chemical analysis…) to support the root cause analysis.

• You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
• Bachelor Degree in a science field or equivalent experience in laboratory environment
• Familiar with material and chemical analytical techniques, with hands-on working style
• Willingness to combine Hand-on tasks (vehicle assembly, material & part evaluation) with digitalization capability towards our future digital development scheme.
• Quick and eager learner with a flexible mind and good eye for details
• Team player with good communication skills
