Michelman is seeking an experienced Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to lead and manage all aspects of EHS programs across our specialty chemical manufacturing sites. This role ensures compliance with internal standards and external regulations while fostering a strong safety culture.

You will oversee audits, risk assessments, training, incident investigations and environmental reporting; manage ISO 14001/45001 initiatives; and collaborate with cross‑functional teams and regulators

Qualifications

  • Expertise in occupational and process safety in chemical manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of regional EHS regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in managing EHS budgets and financial calculations.
  • Experience with EHS auditing practices and ISO 14001/45001.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Fluency in French and English.

Responsabilités

  • Lead development and implementation of EHS policies and procedures.
  • Promote Zero Incident culture through leadership, training, and engagement.
  • Oversee occupational health and safety programs, environmental compliance, and emergency planning.
  • Conduct regular site audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Manage EHS training programs, including content development, delivery, and competency assessments.
  • Administer and maintain compliance programs such as LOTO, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection.
  • Ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations and accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and regulatory agencies to maintain environmental permits.
  • Prepare internal, external and legal reports; collect data and input environmental metrics.
  • Manage ISO 14001 together with Quality Manager (ISO 9001); organize audits and management reviews.
  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and drive KPIs.
  • Review new chemicals, equipment, and processes for safety and environmental impact.
  • Lead safety committees and contribute to global EHS strategy.
  • Develop EHS KPIs aligned with corporate direction.
  • Mentor and support staff on the plant floor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Description du poste

The Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of EHS programs across a specialty chemical manufacturing site(s). This role ensures compliance with internal standards and external regulations while fostering a strong safety culture. The EHS Manager may oversee a team of professionals and collaborate with cross-functional departments to drive continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental stewardship.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of EHS policies and procedures in compliance with global and regional regulations.
  • Promote a Zero Incident' culture through leadership, training, and engagement with employees at all levels.
  • Oversee occupational health and safety programs, environmental compliance, and emergency response planning.
  • Conduct regular site audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Manage EHS training programs, including content development, delivery, and competency assessments.
  • Administer and maintain compliance programs such as LOTO, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection, etc. and ensure they align with both the Legal and Michelman Global EHS Standard requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal regulations and maintain accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and regulatory agencies to maintain environmental permits and compliance.
  • Prepare various internal, external and legal reports
  • Collect data and input environmental metrics
  • Manage integrated management system (ISO 14001) together with Quality Manager (ISO 9001), organize internal audits, external audits, management review…
  • Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics and drive initiatives to improve key performance indicators.
  • Review new chemicals, equipment, and processes for safety and environmental impact.
  • Lead and support the regional/local safety committees and contribute to global EHS strategy development.
  • Develop EHS Key Performance Indicators for the site in order that EHS performance can be measured and assessed. Align KPIs with the Michelman Corporate EHS direction.
  • Resource, mentor and support the staff on the plant floor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:

  • Expertise in both occupational and process safety within a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of regional/local and other relevant EHS regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in managing EHS budgets and performing financial calculations.
  • Experience with EHS auditing practices
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • Experience working in a Global EHS matrix organization and with a Global EHS Management System.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally as requested.

Preferred:

  • Experience with global EHS standards and international regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for EHS data management and reporting.
Education and Experience

Required:

  • Technical master degree – preferably with knowledge in chemistry or with several years of experience in a similar function.
  • University certificate in Environmental Health and Safety (level 1 prevention advisor).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of safety management experience in chemical manufacturing or process management.
  • Fluency in written and verbal French and English

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Level 1 or 2 training as prevention advisor completion or a path to get Level 1 training completed prior to May 2028.
Work Environment & Conditions

This role operates in a chemical manufacturing environment with exposure to industrial processes and materials.

The EHS Manager is expected to maintain a visible presence on the plant floor and may be required to travel to regional and global sites.

The position involves use of personal protective equipment, and participation in emergency response activities.
