WLG in Belgium is seeking a Linux engineer to install, harden and monitor security tooling on Linux, within a strict change-controlled environment. You will build and maintain automation to test, integrate and roll out updates while ensuring high availability.

You will work on Linux server administration (RHEL), scripting for automation, and collaborating with teams to improve incident response, scalability and security practices across the estate.

Qualifications

• A computer science degree with at least a year as a Linux engineer
• Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems
• Programming or scripting used for automation

A multinational defence organisation runs its security tooling on Linux, and needs an engineer to install, harden, automate and keep it available — working inside a change-controlled environment where an unexplained fix is not a fix.

What You Would Be Doing

• Installing and monitoring Linux operating systems and the applications that run on them, to the standards of a secure environment.
• Contributing to the availability, scalability and performance of the security tooling estate and the platforms underneath it.
• Building and maintaining custom systems and tools that make it possible to test, integrate, automate and monitor both custom and commercial applications.
• Preparing and defending application upgrades in front of the change management board.
• Rolling out new features and installations inside the protected perimeter.
• Writing the documentation and operating procedures for what you build, and testing them.
• Diagnosing problems in Linux systems and in how they integrate with directory services, single sign-on, web platforms and log aggregation.
• Finding the patterns behind repeated incidents and proposing the improvements that reduce them.
• Working with service management on incident, problem and change procedures.

What you would bring

• A computer science degree with at least a year as a Linux engineer, or the equivalent in practice.
• Linux server administration on Red Hat Enterprise Linux — installation, configuration and maintenance.
• Programming or scripting used in earnest for automation.
• Ansible, and comfort with virtualisation such as VMware.
• Security practice applied to Linux: firewalls, encryption, access control.
• Red Hat certification — both administrator and engineer level is preferred.
• Desirable: Red Hat Satellite and packaging, observability practice, containers with Podman or Docker, collaboration tooling, and open-source contribution.
