ALTIA is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join an international project for a major European organization, focusing on high-impact backend development with Java. You will design, develop, maintain, and secure back-end applications and services, including REST APIs, databases, and full lifecycle collaboration.

The role requires strong Java expertise, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and experience with CI/CD, OpenAPI, and security best practices. Brussels-based delivery with remote options.

Qualifications

• EQF Level 7 qualification, plus min 15 years IT experience.
• English or French level B2 or higher (spoken and written).
• Strong Java backend development experience.
• Experience with Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Experience with WebLogic, Kafka, JEE, and EJB.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL; and complex SQL and DB design.
• Experience designing, building, and securing REST APIs and web services.
• Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Experience with CI/CD and build tools: Maven, GitLab, Bamboo, Jenkins, Nexus.
• Knowledge of application security practices including authentication and authorization.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to join an international project for a major European organization, working on high-impact international projects.

You will be responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and security of back-end applications and services using Java technologies, including the development and integration of REST APIs and web services, database design, and collaboration throughout the software development lifecycle.

MUST have for this challenge

• EQF Level 7 qualification + a minimum of 15 years of professional IT experience.
• English or French level B2 or higher, both spoken and written.
• Strong experience in back-end development with Java.
• Experience with Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Experience with WebLogic, Kafka, JEE, and EJB.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Experience with complex SQL and database design.
• Experience designing, building, and securing REST APIs and web services.
• Experience with OpenAPI / Swagger documentation.
• Experience with CI/CD and build tools such as Maven, GitLab, Bamboo, Jenkins, and Nexus.
• Knowledge of application security practices, including input validation, authentication and authorization.
• Experience or knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and JWT.

Nice to have

• NoSQL databases: MongoDB, CouchDB, and CosmosDB.
• Experience with ALM tools such as Jira, Git.
• Experience with unit and integration testing using JUnit and Mockito, and code analysis tools such as SonarQube, SonarLint, or HP Fortify.
• Knowledge of SOA architectures, service buses, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for development and deployment, as well as basic cloud service configuration.
• Experience working in Agile and Scrum environments, including code reviews, mentoring, technical onboarding, requirements refinement, and estimation.
• Knowledge of public grant management, public audits, European open-source/eUI projects, and workflow orchestration tools such as Camunda or Activiti will be highly valued.
