Operating within a highly regulated industrial environment, the company places a strong emphasis on operational excellence, sustainability, quality, and the safety of its people and assets.

This role offers the opportunity to join a business that values continuous improvement, people development, and long-term growth, while contributing to initiatives that have a direct impact on organisational performance, workforce engagement, and operational sustainability.

Job Description
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the site's Safety, Health, Environment and Quality function.
  • Lead and develop a team of approximately eight SHEQ professionals, creating a high-performing and sustainable organisation.
  • Drive a cultural transformation focused on safety ownership, behavioural safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Partner with corporate SHEQ teams to align local strategy with broader organisational objectives.
  • Support major projects, shutdowns, turnarounds, and future site development activities from a SHEQ perspective.
The Successful Applicant

We are looking for an experienced SHEQ leader who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional people leadership and influencing skills.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within a high-hazard industrial environment such as chemicals, petrochemicals, energy, heavy manufacturing, or a similar sector. They will be comfortable operating in a complex organisation and have experience leading both compliance-driven and culture-driven SHEQ initiatives.

Key qualities include:

  • Significant SHEQ leadership experience within an industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety management, risk management, environmental compliance, and safety management systems.
  • Experience leading teams and developing people through periods of change and transformation.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all organisational levels, from shop floor employees to executive leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated success in driving behavioural safety programmes and cultural change initiatives.
  • Strong project management and programme development capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, challenge constructively, provide feedback, and build trust.
  • A visible and approachable leadership style with a genuine presence across the site.
  • Ability to make decisions, create momentum, and drive execution.
  • Experience working with regulatory authorities, audits, inspections, and governance processes.
  • Understanding of Belgian SHE legislation and local regulatory requirements would be highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to Antwerp or the wider industrial cluster in Belgium and the Netherlands would be beneficial.

This opportunity would particularly suit an ambitious leader who not only wants to excel in SHEQ leadership but also has the potential to progress into broader site leadership responsibilities in the future.

What’s on Offer
  • A senior leadership position with significant visibility and influence across a major industrial site.
  • The opportunity to lead a meaningful SHEQ transformation programme and make a lasting impact on site culture and performance.
  • Responsibility for a well-established SHEQ function with the scope to shape future direction and capability.
  • Exposure to senior corporate leadership and international SHEQ networks.
  • A collaborative and technically advanced industrial environment.
