Job summary

Ayesa Digital in Brussels is seeking a seasoned Database Engineer to design, build and optimise databases underpinning large-scale EU grant management platforms. You will collaborate with developers, architects and stakeholders in a multicultural, agile team, with hybrid on-site work in Brussels.

You will lead data modelling, performance tuning and security, ensuring scalable, robust data solutions while contributing to migration, backups and release activities.

Qualifications

• University degree at Level 6 or equivalent with 7+ years IT experience, or 12 years with a secondary diploma.
• Proven experience as Database Engineer or similar role.
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL/PLpgSQL knowledge.
• Experience in data modelling with tools such as Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler, Hackolade or NoSQL Workbench.
• Experience with non-relational databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, Cosmos DB).
• Knowledge of performance tuning, indexing and execution plans.
• Experience with backup, recovery and high availability (replication, clustering).
• Familiarity with database release management and Agile practices.
• Knowledge of data security and compliance.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and present to stakeholders.
• English or French language proficiency at B2 level or higher.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain data models (conceptual, logical, physical) to reflect business needs.
• Design secure, scalable database schemas, tables, views, indexes and relations.
• Write and optimise DDL scripts for various DBMS.
• Develop and optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures and triggers.
• Translate requirements into efficient DB structures.
• Prototype solutions for validation before production rollout.
• Create and execute test plans for DB components and data integrity.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and implement indexing strategies.
• Implement DB security policies and data encryption.
• Plan data migration, backups, recovery and high-availability strategies.
• Support deployment, configuration and release management of DB components.
• Write specs for AI code agents and review outputs for safety and performance.
• Produce technical documentation.
