European Commission is seeking a Senior Full-stack Software Engineer on a freelance or project contract basis to own the full development lifecycle of scalable, secure web applications in a dynamic, international environment.

You will design front-end interfaces and robust back-end services, architect secure RESTful APIs, and deploy with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure, plus CI/CD. Proficiency in Java or Node.js, Spring Boot, Hibernate, PostgreSQL/Oracle and Agile/Scrum will help you thrive.

Qualifications

• Experience with Java or Node.js, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle).
• Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud services (AWS/Azure), and Git workflows.
• Familiar with Agile/Scrum, Spec-Driven Development, and API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger).
• Self-starter who communicates clearly in a multicultural environment.

Senior Full-stack Software Engineer (Freelance / Project Contract)

Would you like to help build the digital applications shaping Europe?

In this role, you will take ownership of the full development lifecycle for scalable, secure, and high-quality web applications. You will operate in a dynamic, international environment where your code directly makes an impact.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Development: Design and build modern front-end interfaces alongside robust back-end services (from UI design to database interactions).
• Architecture & APIs: Architect scalable systems and develop secure RESTful APIs.
• Cloud & DevOps: Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms using CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies.
• Quality & Optimization: Write clean, test-driven code (unit/integration testing), analyze processes to troubleshoot issues, and maintain clear technical documentation.

Profile & Technical Expertise

• Back-End: Strong experience with Java or Node.js, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle).
• DevOps & Cloud: Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud services (AWS/Azure), and Git workflows.
• Methodology: Familiar with Agile/Scrum, Spec-Driven Development (e.g., Claude Code, Kiro CLI), and API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger).
• Soft Skills: Self-starter who onboards quickly, communicates clearly with stakeholders, and thrives in a multicultural team environment.

Assets / Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience in public administration or the public sector.
• Good command of French (spoken and written, level C1 or higher).

• Contract Type: This position is exclusively available on a freelance or project contract basis.
• Citizenship: Candidates must hold EU citizenship (national of an EU member state) to be eligible for this role at the European Commission.
