Jensen Hughes Belgium is seeking a Fire Simulation Engineer to develop and execute fire models, assess flame spread and heat release in diverse environments.

You will work with architects and engineers within the Fire & Building Safety team, applying FDS, PyroSim and Python to deliver actionable safety insights and robust design recommendations.

The role emphasizes collaboration, regulatory compliance, and ongoing R&D to advance simulation techniques and protect lives and property.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in fire simulation or related area.
  • Proficiency in FDS and PyroSim; Python coding desirable; Pathfinder/IDA preferred.
  • Relevant fire safety engineering or risk management certifications advantageous.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication; able to explain technical concepts.
  • Dutch and English language skills required; French advantageous.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

  • Conduct Fire Simulations: Develop and execute fire simulation models to assess fire behaviour, smoke movement, and heat release rates in various environments.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse simulation results to provide insights and recommendations for fire safety strategies and design improvements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate fire safety measures into building designs and systems.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and presentations that communicate simulation findings and recommendations to clients and project teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all simulations and recommendations comply with local and international fire safety regulations and standards.
  • Research and Development: Stay updated on the latest fire safety technologies and methodologies, contributing to the continuous improvement of simulation techniques.
  • Client Engagement: Participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements, present findings, and address any concerns related to fire safety.

As a Fire Simulation Engineer at Jensen Hughes, you will play a crucial role in enhancing safety and security through advanced fire simulation techniques. Your expertise will contribute to high-stakes projects that protect lives, property, and reputations across various industries. Working within the Fire & Building Safety team, you will collaborate with industry leaders and utilise innovative technologies to address complex safety challenges.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Education: A degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in fire simulation or a related area, with a strong understanding of fire dynamics and safety principles.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in fire simulation software FDS, PyroSim are required along with data analysis tools. Proficiency with Pathfinder and IDA is preferred but not essential. Coding experience using Python is also desirable.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in fire safety engineering or risk management are advantageous.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Language Skills: Dutch and English are required. French is also advantageous.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating respect and integrity.
