Job summary

Gerlach Belgium, part of the DHL Group, is seeking a customs declarant to handle the creation, completion, and follow-up of customs documents for cross-border road transport and related cases. You will prepare and manage documentation and advise clients on operational matters.

Working in Herentals with a hybrid model, you will collaborate with customs authorities and customers, ensure compliance with applicable laws (VAT, customs, transport regulations), and support processes from A to Z.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of import/export, customs and VAT regulations.
• Experience as a customs declarant or administrative clerk in a customs environment.
• Familiarity with freight, logistics and customs representation.
• Proficient in Dutch and English language.

Responsibilities

• Prepare customs declarations for cross-border transport in line with regulations.
• Draft dossier instructions for correct handling of import/export transactions and related documents.
• Identify irregularities in customs and report to supervisor.
• Maintain contact with customs, answer client questions and advise on operational matters.
• Submit objections, BTI requests and correspondences with customs, in consultation with supervisor.
• Prepare BFV declarations and ensure proper follow-up.
• Prepare excise declarations and apply for permits for all types of customs storage and/or VAT warehouses.
• Apply for permits and handle full dispute dossiers.
• Apply tariff rates according to nomenclature and comply with safety/environmental rules.
