Sarens in Wolvertem is looking for a Team Leader Engineering to oversee and guide a team of Project Engineers and CAD Designers. You will be deeply involved in engineering tasks, facilitating solutions for heavy lifting challenges and fostering team development.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience. You’ll enjoy a full-time contract with flexible hours, a competitive salary package including a company car, and opportunities for training and development.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy lifting or crane engineering.
• Experience working with crawler cranes, lattice boom cranes, or similar equipment.
• Good communication skills in English; knowledge of Dutch/French is a plus.

As a Team Leader Engineering, you combine technical expertise with leadership skills to support and develop a team of Project Engineers and CAD Designers. You remain actively involved in engineering studies while helping colleagues tackle challenges, develop their expertise and deliver high‑quality solutions.

You are not managing from the sideline. You are part of the team. While remaining hands‑on in engineering, you help coordinate workloads, support colleagues, share expertise and contribute to the growth of the Engineering team. From all sizes of Crawler Cranes up to Sarens’ unique Giant Cranes, you help shape the technical solutions behind some of the most challenging lifting operations worldwide.

Technical Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with Project Engineers, CAD designers and operation teams to deliver practical and workable solutions.
• Analyze engineering requests, project requirements, technical drawings and client information.
• Develop tailor‑made lifting concepts and determine the most suitable crane configurations for complex heavy lifting projects.
• Develop, review and validate lifting plans, engineering studies and technical documentation.
• Participate in the development, standardization and evolution of engineering methods and drive the implementation of continuous improvement.
• Support colleagues in solving complex technical challenges.
• Visit project sites to validate concepts, support execution and translate on‑site insights into improvements for future projects.
• Continuously deepen your expertise in heavy lifting equipment and Sarens’ unique crane fleet.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Coordinate the daily activities of Project Engineers and CAD Designers.
• Distribute work across the team and help balance priorities and workloads.
• Support engineers and designers when they encounter technical or operational challenges.
• Coach team members in their professional and technical development.
• Act as the first person of contact when engineers or CAD designers encounter technical challenges and need support.
• Encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.
• Monitor the quality and consistency of engineering deliverables.
• Help create an environment where people can learn, grow and perform.
• Act as a bridge between Engineering, Operations and other internal stakeholders.

Profile Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent through experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience within heavy lifting, crane engineering, offshore construction, marine contracting or a comparable technical environment.
• Strong affinity with heavy lift cranes and lifting operations.
• Experience with crawler cranes, lattice boom cranes, ring cranes or similar heavy lifting equipment.
• Comfortable making technical calculations, developing lifting concepts and preparing or interpreting technical drawings.
• Experience supporting, coaching or guiding colleagues within a technical environment.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance priorities across multiple projects and team members.
• Able to coordinate workloads, create structure and maintain overview without losing sight of technical details.
• A natural communicator who enjoys collaborating with people and helping others develop.
• Good communication skills in English. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is an asset. Additional languages are a plus.
• Curious, hands‑on, and eager to combine technical expertise with team development.
