Job summary

Spektrum is seeking a seasoned DevOps Engineer to support NATO NCIA programs, focusing on streamlining application delivery and bridging development with infrastructure.

You will design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines, provision hybrid on‑prem and cloud resources with IaC, implement monitoring and security controls, and work across agile teams to ensure reliable, compliant deployments in a defence context.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on DevOps or automated platform management.
• Experience deploying container workloads on Kubernetes, Rancher, RKE2, Docker.
• Proficiency in CI/CD, GitOps, and pipeline automation (GitLab, ArgoCD, Jenkins).
• IaC with Terraform; automation with Ansible.
• Experience with VMware and major clouds (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Scripting in Bash or Python; observability with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK.
• Strong problem-solving in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Administer container orchestration platforms using SUSE Rancher Prime and collaborate directly with development teams to onboard applications into production environments.
• Design, build, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to fully automate application testing, integration, and delivery.
• Provision and manage hybrid infrastructure across on-premises environments and the cloud utilizing IaC.
• Establish and maintain comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure platform reliability and performance.
• Embed security best practices and compliance controls directly into the deployment pipelines and infrastructure configurations.
• Troubleshoot complex integration and deployment issues, acting as a technical bridge across agile delivery teams.

The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO's member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:

• Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO's communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
• Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO's military commanders to plan and execute operations.
• Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
• Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO's mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.
• Information Management: The NCIA manages NATO's information technology infrastructure, including its databases, applications, and servers.

Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.

To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

Role Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of Service Delivery Manager of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), the DevOps Engineer will focus on streamlining application delivery and bridging the gap between development and infrastructure:

• Administer container orchestration platforms using SUSE Rancher Prime and collaborate directly with development teams to seamlessly onboard applications into production environments.
• Design, build, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to fully automate application testing, integration, and delivery.
• Provision and manage hybrid infrastructure across on-premises environments and the cloud utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Establish and maintain comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure platform reliability and performance.
• Embed security best practices and compliance controls directly into the deployment pipelines and infrastructure configurations.
• Troubleshoot complex integration and deployment issues, acting as a technical bridge across agile delivery teams.

Essential Skills, Experience and Certifications

At least 5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps or automated platform management, including:

• Solid experience deploying and administering container workloads and orchestration platforms, including Kubernetes, Rancher, RKE2 and Docker.
• Strong proficiency in CI/CD, GitOps, pipeline automation, and version control using enterprise tools like GitLab, ArgoCD or Jenkins.
• Proven expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, provisioning hybrid resources with Terraform, and automating system configurations with Ansible.
• Practical knowledge of managing hybrid infrastructure across enterprise virtualization environments (VMware) and major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash or Python for automating routine operational tasks and tool integrations.
• Experience deploying and utilizing observability and industrystandard monitoring stacks like Prometheus, Grafana and ELK.
• Excellent analytical problem-solving capabilities with a strong track record of delivering cross-functional work in fast-moving Agile environments.
