Job summary

GBT Solutions, Lda in Brussels is seeking a Senior Data Scientist / DBT Analytics Engineer to join an international data transformation initiative. You will design and optimize analytics pipelines, ensure data quality, and work across enterprise-grade platforms.

The role requires strong dbt Core experience, Analytics Engineering background, and solid SQL and Spark skills. Collaboration with cross-functional teams in a multinational environment is expected.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with dbt Core in production environments.
• Strong analytics engineering background and data modelling knowledge.
• Expertise in SQL and performance optimization for complex transformations.
• Solid understanding of Spark, partitioning, and file layout optimization.
• Experience with Iceberg tables, schema evolution, and time travel concepts.
• Knowledge of data validation, reconciliation, and testing approaches.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows, reviews, releases, and CI/CD.
• Experience with orchestration tools like Dagster and Spark workloads.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Position: Senior Data Scientist

Location: Brussels, Belgium (near site mod, so each consultant needs to live within 2 hours of Brussels)

We are looking for a DBT Analytics Engineer to join a high-impact data transformation initiative within an international environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and optimizing modern analytics transformation pipelines, ensuring data quality, scalability, and performance across enterprise-grade data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop transformation pipelines for scalable and reliable data workflows.
• Optimize the execution performance of dbt projects.
• Design, implement, and document data quality controls and validation tests within the dbt ecosystem.
• Set up automated regression testing and validation procedures for transformation outputs.
• Promote and share best practices for managing and evolving dbt projects.
• Translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable transformation pipelines.
• Produce technical documentation covering transformation logic, operational procedures, and migration decisions.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, business stakeholders, and platform teams in an international environment.

Required Skills

• Proven hands-on experience with dbt (preferably dbt Core) in production environments.
• Strong experience in Analytics Engineering and modern data modelling methodologies.
• Expertise in SQL, including complex transformations, incremental processing, and performance optimization.
• Solid understanding of Apache Spark, partitioning strategies, file layout optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience working with Apache Iceberg tables and related concepts such as schema evolution, partition evolution, snapshot management, and time travel.
• Strong knowledge of data validation, reconciliation, and testing approaches.
• Experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, release management, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with orchestration and scheduling tools, particularly Dagster and Spark-based workloads.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience migrating legacy ETL processes from SAS to modern dbt and PySpark-based solutions.
• Experience working in multicultural and international environments.
