Darwin Recruitment is seeking a Data Engineer for a Brussels-based energy sector project. The role focuses on building data pipelines, storage structures, and analytics-enabled data platforms with governance aspects.

You will work in a data-driven team, collaborating with analysts and stakeholders, with approx. 60% remote work and initial onsite training in Brussels.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering.
• Experience with at least two of: SQL Server, Azure data services, Python pipelines.
• Ability to work with business analysts and stakeholders to refine requirements.
• Strong testing discipline and DevOps practices.
• Fluent English; French, Dutch or German a plus.
• Able to document technical work clearly.

Job title – Data Engineer

Client Location – Brussels, Belgium

Remote work offering – ~60% remote (2 days/week onsite in Brussels, 3 days remote, after an initial training period onsite)

Project focus

Join a data-driven organization within a major European energy transmission operator, playing a part in building a sustainable, reliable energy infrastructure. You’ll join one of the Data Organization’s Product Teams, working on a data platform that spans integration, business intelligence and analytics, master data management, and data governance (lineage and quality). The role centres on building data pipelines, efficient storage structures, and materialised views across analytical technologies, plus data exchange endpoints for end users, with some exposure to governance tooling (glossary, modeling, lineage, quality).

Key skills and Experience required

• 3-5+ years’ hands‑on experience covering at least 2 of the following: SQL Server; building data pipelines with Azure services (Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Azure Stream/Log Analytics, Azure DevOps); Python‑based data pipelines/enrichment in a Databricks environment; openness to adjacent technologies such as Redis, RabbitMQ, Neo4j or Apache Arrow
• Comfortable working directly with business analysts and stakeholders to refine requirements and present reusable, integrated solutions
• Strong testing discipline and DevOps practices
• Able to contribute to clear technical documentation
• Analytical, iterative, product‑oriented mindset with a track record of continuous improvement
• Fluent English required; French, Dutch or German a strong plus
