Capgemini Engineering in Belgium is seeking an Automation Engineer in Life Sciences to design, develop and maintain automated systems for GMP environments. You will work with PLC, SCADA, DCS, and HMI solutions, ensuring compliance with GAMP 5 and Part 11.

The role emphasizes collaboration with process engineers, QA and validation teams, problem solving, and delivering high-quality automation solutions across pharmaceutical and biotech facilities.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in industrial automation within Life Sciences (pharma/biotech).
• Strong knowledge of GMP regulations and automation standards (GAMP5, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsabilités

• Design, program, and commission automation systems (PLC/SCADA/DCS/HMI) for GMP environments.
• Develop and maintain automation software with regulatory compliant documentation.
• Collaborate with process engineers, QA and validation teams to define requirements and ensure project delivery.
• Troubleshoot automation issues and perform root cause analyses to minimize production disruption.

Your Role

As an Automation Engineer in the Life Sciences sector, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining automated systems that drive efficiency and compliance across pharmaceutical and biotech environments. In this role you will play a key role in:

• Designing, programming, and commissioning automation systems including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI solutions for use in GMP-regulated manufacturing and laboratory environments, ensuring full compliance with industry standards.
• Developing and maintaining automation software by writing, testing, and documenting control system code in line with regulatory requirements such as GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and EU Annex 11.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams including process engineers, quality assurance, and validation teams to define automation requirements, support system integration, and ensure seamless project delivery.
• Troubleshooting and resolving automation system issues by performing root cause analyses, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring minimal disruption to production or laboratory operations.
• Supporting qualification and validation activities for automated systems by contributing to the preparation of validation documentation, including URS, FS, DS, and test protocols, in alignment with GMP guidelines.

Your Profile

We are looking for a technically skilled and driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced, regulated environment. You will bring:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial automation within the Life Sciences industry, with hands-on expertise in PLC, SCADA, DCS, or HMI systems from vendors such as Siemens, Rockwell, or Emerson.
• Strong knowledge of GMP regulations and automation standards including GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and EU Annex 11, with a proven ability to apply these in a practical, project-based context.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex automation issues, propose effective solutions, and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
• A degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, combined with a proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
• Proficiency in French and/or Dutch, as well as English, enabling effective communication in Brussels' multilingual professional environment
