Ghent University invites applications for a First Stage Researcher (R1) in Translation, Interpreting and Communication within the Department LW22. The two-year temporary appointment, renewable twice for two more years, starts as early as 1 February 2027.

Candidates hold a Master’s in Translation/Interpreting/Multilingual Communication or Linguistics and Literature, with English studied; Dutch knowledge is an asset.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Translation, Interpreting or Multilingual Communication, Linguistics and Literature, or equivalent.
• English studied at degree level; Dutch knowledge is an asset.
• Interest in academic and/or project-based research and services.

Responsabilités

• Assist teaching activities in English proficiency and English for specific purposes courses.
• Assist in internal and external services of the department.
• Submit a doctoral fellowship application if eligible.

• You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically in courses that focus on English proficiency and/or in courses that focus on English for specific purposes (e.g. professional or business communication) within the Bachelor’s programme in Applied Language Studies, the Master’s programme in Multilingual Communication, the Master’s programme in Interpreting, and the Master’s programme in Translation.
• You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.
• If you meet the formal eligibility criteria, you submit a doctoral fellowship application to the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) during your first term of appointment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• You hold a Master’s degree in Translation, Interpreting or Multilingual Communication, a Master’s degree in Linguistics and Literature, or an equivalent degree, with English as one of the languages studied. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment
• For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
• You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services
• Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. will be viewed as an asset
• You have excellent teaching and communication skills
• You have a C2 level of proficiency in English according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
• Knowledge of Dutch at C1/C2 level according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is considered an asset
• We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
• Your appointment will start on 1st February 2027 at the earliest

The certificate can be requested via www.naricvlaanderen.be/en . For diplomas awarded in the UK before January 31st of 2020, a certificate of equivalence is not required
