Job summary

The Queensland Government is seeking a Youth Worker to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by delivering core programs and contributing to a culturally inclusive service response.

You will supervise young people, work with a multi-disciplinary team, maintain case records, assist with rosters and safety checks, and participate in ongoing development to deliver best practice in youth justice.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering youth services aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019 and departmental policies.
  • Ability to work in culturally diverse settings and demonstrate cultural capability.
  • Knowledge of bail, court orders and reintegration processes as part of service delivery.

  • Provide supervision and support to young people and ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Consult with stakeholders including government and community agencies and families to design and access services.
  • Provide supervision and culturally appropriate support to young people for bail and reintegration.
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve quality casework outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and participate in learning and development processes.
  • Prepare and maintain clear case records to support planning and reviews.
  • Assist in rostering for supervised orders and bail programs.
  • Conduct regular safety audits of service delivery sites and equipment.
  • Participate in training to deliver services in line with best practice.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:As a Youth Worker, you will specifically:Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.Deliver components of core programs, whilst working alone or in team settings to support and reinforce the Service Response Plan as developed by Youth Justice Caseworkers.Provide supervision and support to young people and ensure delivery of high-quality service in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, and contemporary best practice.Consult and negotiate with relevant stakeholders including other government and community agencies, service providers and families on behalf of young people to design, implement and enhance their access to services, including support networks, in accordance with the young person's service response plan.Provide supervision and culturally appropriate individual and family support to young people to assist with their compliance with bail, court orders and reintegration into the community, in accordance with the young person's service response plan.Participate and contribute productively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework and case management outcomes.Develop and maintain knowledge relevant to the role, and actively participate in appropriate learning and development processes.Prepare and maintain accessible and clear case records consistent with departmental case management requirements, to assist service response planning and reviews, and attend these meetings as required.Assist the Program Coordinator/Team Coordinator in developing weekly rosters of work for young people subject to supervised orders and bail programs in accordance with the young person's service response plan.Conduct regular audits of service delivery sites and program equipment to ensure appropriate safety requirements are met and program activities are conducted safely.Participate in training and skill development to deliver services in accordance with best practice and contemporary youth justice.Demonstrate cultural capability and a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture.Interested in applying?To enable us to assess your suitability, your applications should include:Tell us about your skills:Your current resume detailing your previous work or voluntary experience including two referees who have a thorough knowledge of your conduct and performance over the past 2 years, or an appropriate period.We will use your resume to assess how well you meet 'What are we looking for' statements.Note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants may wish to include work samples, videos, stories and experiences within community as part of their application.
