Job summary

St John of God Social Outreach is seeking a Youth Worker for Horizon House in Broome, WA. This permanent part-time role involves overnight shifts totaling 38 hours per fortnight and providing trauma-informed, strengths-based support to young people at risk of homelessness.

You will work with a Support Coordinator to deliver Independent Living Skills, advocacy, and tailored care, ensuring safety, wellbeing and pathways into education or work. Salary packaging and flexible options are offered.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Youth Work or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years experience in youth work or case management.
• Valid Driver's Licence and First Aid Certificate.
• Working with Children Check/Blue Card or state equivalent.

Responsibilities

St John of God Horizon Houseprovides safe, stable accommodation and tailored support for young people aged 16 to 22 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Western Australia and Victoria.

At Horizon House, we provide strengths-based, trauma-informed care that recognises each young person’s unique experiences,abilitiesand goals. Our role is not to replace parents or guardians, but to support young people to develop the skills,confidenceand connections they need to move forward independently.

Your Role

We are currently seeking motivated Youth Worker to join our Horizon House service in Broome , on a permanent part-time basis.

This will be an overnight shift position working 38 hours per fortnight.

• Week 1: Thursday & Friday night
• Week 2: Monday & Wednesday night

Our Youth Residential Caregivers work in a residential care setting alongside the Support Coordinator, to provide intensive support and advocacy to our residents. Responsibilities also include coordinating, developing and implementing the Independent Living Skills Program to meet the individualised needs of the residents throughout their stay at Horizon House.

The Position

• Provide safe and stable long-term accommodation to a young people who are at risk of being homelessness.

• Able to provide outreach, therapeutic and practical support to meet the continuum of care arrangements for young people with complex needs.

• Assist young people to realise their aspirations and potential integration into mainstream society.

• Provide support to young people in areas including independent living skills, involvement in education, training and employment services.

• Enhance a young person’s wellbeing and personal development through engagement with the broader resources and supports available in the community.

• Monitor and respond to the supportive and developmental needs of young people in a manner suited to their culture, gender and developmental needs.

• Engage in an emphatic way with young people to effectively maintain strong relationships to allow effective outcomes of case management.

You will have a sound understanding of the special needs of adolescents and trauma-informed care, together with recent experience working with at-risk young people, extensive experience in an area related to youth work and knowledge of the Privacy Legislation and Occupational, Health & Safety Act Regulations.

Successful applicants will hold a Certificate IV in Youth Work or similar and/or minimum 2 years of experience in an area related to youth work and/or case management, State’s Drivers Licence, First Aid Certificate and Working with Children Card.

• Salary: $80,263 to $86,073 (pro-rata for part-time) plus 12% superannuation
