Job summary

HomeCaring is seeking a Youth Worker to provide direct day-to-day care, supervision and support to children and young people in Child Safety care arrangements. You will work in the young person’s home environment and community, delivering a safe, stable and supportive presence while helping them develop life skills and independence.

Responsibilities include direct care, trauma-informed support, maintaining routines, facilitating school and appointments, documenting progress notes and escalating

Qualifications

• A relevant recognised qualification meeting Child Safety minimum qualification requirements
• Current Working with Children clearance or Blue Card where required
• Current Australian Driver Licence
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Ability to complete all required employment and child-safety screening
• Strong written communication skills and ability to complete case notes
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Availability to work a rotating 24/7 roster

• Provide trauma-informed and person-centred support
• Support daily routines including meals, personal care and bedtime routines
• Transport and accompany young people to school, appointments and activities
• Support development of independent living and emotional regulation skills
• Implement care plans and safety plans
• Escalate safeguarding concerns promptly
• Maintain a safe home environment and complete shift documentation
• Communicate effectively with Team Leaders and Case Managers
• Participate in handovers, meetings and training
• Work across a 24/7 roster

The role includes:

Building safe, positive and professional relationships with young people

Providing trauma-informed and person-centred support

Supporting daily routines including meals, personal care, household activities and bedtime routines

Transporting and accompanying young people to school, appointments, family contact and community activities

Supporting young people to develop independent living, social and emotional regulation skills

Implementing individual care plans, behaviour support strategies and safety plans

Recognising and responding appropriately to behaviours of concern, escalation and crisis situations

Maintaining a safe and supportive home environment

Supporting young people following incidents or periods of emotional distress

Administering medication where required and in accordance with organisational procedures

Completing accurate and timely progress notes, shift documentation and incident reports

Immediately escalating safeguarding, Child Safety and reportable conduct concerns in accordance with organisational procedures

Communicating effectively with Team Leaders and Case Managers

Maintaining confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries at all times

Participating in handovers, team meetings, training and ongoing professional development

Working across a 24/7 roster, which may include mornings, afternoons, active nights, sleepovers, weekends and public holidays

What We're Looking For

This role requires someone who can remain calm, consistent and professional in challenging situations.

Our young people may have experienced significant trauma and can present with complex behaviours. You will need to be able to build rapport while maintaining clear professional boundaries and following established care and safety plans.

You will be expected to provide young people with consistency, structure and a safe environment while encouraging choice, independence and positive outcomes.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered, applicants must have:

• A relevant recognised qualification meeting the applicable Child Safety minimum qualification requirements




• Current Working with Children/Blue Card clearance where required

Previous experience in residential care, Child Safety, youth work, complex behaviours, trauma-informed care or therapeutic support is highly regarded.
