Job summary

Life Without Barriers is seeking a Youth Worker to support children, youth and families within our Child, Youth & Family programs in Queensland. The role offers a starting casual rate of $50.61 per hour plus 12% super and salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per year, with the potential for flexible hours and meaningful, values-driven work.

Key duties include therapeutic, trauma-informed support, assisting with daily activities, transportation of clients, and building trusting relationships

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people; residential care desirable but transferable from mental health, teaching/childcare, AOD services or youth justice is valued.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with children and young people; trauma-informed approach is essential.
• Must hold a valid Full Unrestricted Australian Driver Licence (essential).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people.
• Support daily activities and help young people work towards individual goals.

About the role

Working within our Child, Youth & Family programs and guided by the CARE model, you will provide therapeutic, trauma-informed support to young people with complex needs and behaviours.

You will support young people with daily activities including:

• School drop-offs and pick-ups
• Meal preparation
• Family contact and connection
• Community access
• In-home support
• Supporting young people to work towards their individual goals

You will work alongside young people to build trust, develop skills and create positive opportunities for their future.

Key Responsibilities

As a Youth Worker with Life Without Barriers, you will:

• Build and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people through trust, consistency and active engagement.
• Act as a positive role model and support young people to participate in meaningful activities that develop confidence, independence and life skills.
• Support family relationships and, where appropriate, facilitate family visits and connections.
• Encourage positive relationships with peers and significant people in the young person’s life.
• Support young people to participate in decision-making and have a voice in activities and routines.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have experience working with young people. Experience in residential care is desirable; however, transferable experience from mental health, teaching/childcare, alcohol and other drugs services, youth justice or similar environments is highly valued.
• Be confident supporting young people with complex behaviours and managing risk.
• Hold a valid Full Unrestricted Australian Driver Licence (essential).
• Hold a current First Aid Certificate and CPR certification (or be willing to obtain prior to commencement).
• Complete the Hope and Healing Framework Foundations prior to commencing (training provided by Life Without Barriers).
