Job summary

Centacare NENW is seeking a Youth Mentor in Moree to provide holistic, family‑focused support to young people.

You will help young men and adolescent boys affected by family and domestic violence to recover, build healthy relationships and develop resilience, confidence and positive connections within their community.

Qualifications

Job Description
What This Role Involves

As a Youth Mentor, you’ll work alongside young people and other professionals to provide holistic, family-focused support.

You will help young men and adolescent boys who have been exposed to family and domestic violence to:

  • Recover and heal from their experiences.
  • Develop healthy and respectful relationships.
  • Build resilience, confidence and positive connections.
  • Understand the impacts of violence and make positive choices.
  • Reduce the risk of using family, domestic and sexual violence.
  • Connect with appropriate services and supports within their community.

You’ll manage a caseload of approximately 10–15 young people, depending on individual risk, needs and complexity.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of young people's individual needs, risks, family and community circumstances and developmental needs.
  • Deliver individual mentoring and support sessions using Centacare's holistic and family-oriented approach.
  • Develop positive relationships and build trust with young people and their families.
  • Coordinate referrals and support pathways with other organisations and services.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals, families, carers and community stakeholders where safe and appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, high-quality participant records and contribute to program data and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of practices, interventions and outcomes.
  • Stay informed about current research and evidence-based approaches relevant to young people, FDSV and trauma-informed practice.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative and values-driven team environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Youth Work, Social Work or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people, including supporting case plan goals, responding to individual needs and risks, and building positive relationships.
  • Experience in the community services sector, with knowledge of family and domestic violence and an understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with young people, families, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, build community connections and maintain effective referral pathways, with a strong commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, professional boundaries and ethical practice.
