Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice is seeking a Youth Justice Caseworker for the Maitland Youth Justice Community Office. You will provide frontline services to detainees, conferencing clients, victims and families, as part of a multidisciplinary team aimed at reducing re-offending and supporting reintegration.

You will work with courts, parole authorities and a range of stakeholders to connect young people with services, conduct case planning, and deliver targeted intervention programs

Qualifications

• Diploma or higher tertiary qualification in social work, welfare, psychology, criminology, education or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance.
• Current NSW Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Undertake case management activities targeting appropriate areas of need/risk to reduce re-offending, including case planning, conferences and offence-focused programs.
• Collaborate with Youth Justice staff and stakeholders to connect young people to services and monitor progress.
• Provide clear advice, briefings, reports and written communication for internal/external stakeholders, including courts and legal professionals.
• Use structured screening and assessment tools to identify risks and determine interventions.
• Monitor outcome and case plans for compliance and progress, and facilitate further actions as required.
• Maintain accurate client data across information systems to support planning and decision making.
• Support young people and families with tools and information to create positive change in their lives.
• Contribute to therapeutic goals of Youth Justice services through behaviour management and reflective practice.
• Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures and best practice guidelines.
