Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (WAC) is seeking a motivated and organised Youth Engagement and Cultural Heritage Coordinator to lead initiatives that strengthen Wuthathi young people's connection to culture, community and Country.

This role will establish, coordinate and deliver the Wuthathi Junior Custodian Program, supporting young people to develop cultural knowledge, practical skills and pathways into education, training and employment. Working closely with Wuthathi Elders, Traditional Custodians, families, schools and partner organisations, you will ensure programs are culturally appropriate, engaging and aligned with Wuthathi priorities.

The role will also lead broader cultural heritage initiatives, including the development of the Wuthathi Seasonal Calendar, coordination of on-Country cultural learning activities, protection and intergenerational transfer of cultural knowledge, and re-establishment of the Wuthathi Women's Committee.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about youth development, cultural heritage and supporting Aboriginal communities to drive programs that create lasting benefits for future generations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and delivery of the Wuthathi Junior Custodian Program, including learning resources, personalised learning plans and culturally appropriate youth activities.
  • Coordinate on-Country camps, cultural workshops, educational activities and community events, including logistics, travel and safety.
  • Lead cultural heritage projects, coordinate the Wuthathi Seasonal Calendar and support the protection and intergenerational transfer of cultural knowledge in accordance with cultural protocols.
  • Support the re-establishment of the Wuthathi Women's Committee to strengthen women's cultural leadership and participation.
  • Build partnerships with Elders, Traditional Custodians, families, schools, training providers and other organisations to support youth development and cultural heritage priorities.
  • Ensure programs reflect the direction of the Wuthathi Board, Tribal Elders Council and Traditional Custodians.
  • Manage program budgets, schedules, resources, risks, funding requirements, monitoring and reporting.
  • Identify funding, partnership and continuous improvement opportunities to support program sustainability.
  • Coordinate and support staff and participants, ensuring compliance with child safety, workplace health and safety and organisational policies.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated experience in youth work, education, community development, cultural heritage, project management or a related field within indigenous communities.
  • Strong program coordination experience, including planning, delivering and evaluating programs, projects or community initiatives.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate activities, manage competing priorities, organise logistics and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong administrative and reporting skills, including record keeping, monitoring outcomes, preparing reports and using computer-based systems.
  • Initiative and problem-solving ability, with the capacity to work independently, identify opportunities and drive projects forward.
  • A respectful and culturally sensitive approach, including a willingness to work under the direction of Elders and Traditional Custodians and uphold cultural protocols.
  • A commitment to child safety and workplace health and safety, including the ability to plan and deliver activities safely.
  • A current C Class Driver Licence and a current Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.

The following will be highly regarded:

  • Experience working on cultural heritage protection, on-Country learning, cultural knowledge transfer or seasonal calendars.
  • Experience developing educational resources, learning plans or youth training pathways.
