Job summary

RISE Ventures is seeking an Indigenous Youth Coach for the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP). This identifying role supports Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland.

The position involves connecting youth with education, training and local services while building networks with schools and employers. The role requires delivering employment and non-vocational services, strong organisational skills and a commitment to WHS and Equal Opportunity guidelines.

Qualifications

• Well-developed organisational and time-management skills.
• Highly developed communication and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of participants with barriers to employment or study.
• Conduct initial assessments to identify goals.

• Provide pre- and post-employment support and training.
• Assist participants to access education, training and local services.
• Attend community events to promote ISEP and build support networks.

Youth Coach - Indigenous Skills and Employment Program

This is an Identified position. It is a genuine occupational requirement that an Identified position be filled by an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person, as permitted by and arguable under section 25 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).

Whilst important, our role has shifted to include 'providing work opportunities', 'fostering and creating small enterprises', supporting 'emerging businesses', supporting Government objectives - in essence assisting communities to plan for and RISE to the challenge of self-determination.

A day in the life of a ISEP Youth Coach can include:

• Manage a caseload of participants who have vocational, and non-vocational barriers to employment/study/health services
• Conduct initial assessments of participants to identify short- and long-term goals
• Attend local secondary schools to provide information to staff and students about ISEP, and support students who are exiting the school system
• Engage with young people in the local community to attract eligible participants to the service
• Support participants to access education and training opportunities
• Provide pre and post-employment support and training
• Support participants to develop vocational and non-vocational skills
• Assist participants to access local community service supports
• Participate in local community, employment and networking events and forums to promote the ISEP and build a network of local support services and employers

Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated record of success in delivering employment and or community/non-vocational services to clients
• Previous experience in Youth Work, Community Services or Employment Services (Desirable)
• Well-developed organisational and time-management skills
• Highly developed communication and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to operate within the guidelines of WH&S, Privacy and Equal Opportunity Acts.
• Ability to perform your duties in accordance with organisation requirements, external stakeholders i.e. NIAA
• Demonstrated record of success in delivering employment and or community/non-vocational services to clients

• Have full working rights in Australia
• Have a current driver's licence and a comprehensively insured vehicle
• Complete anAustralia History Criminal Check
• Have a current Working with Children Check or willing to obtain a Working with Children Check before employment
• Ability to work Monday to Friday - 8:30am to 5:00pm
