Job summary

Mind Australia Limited is seeking a Youth Access Clinician for headspace Campbelltown on a part-time basis (2 days per week) through to 30 June 2027. The role involves connecting young people to mental health, physical health, education, and employment supports within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Fully registered health professional with mental health experience (AHPRA for nurses/OTs/psychologists; AASW for social workers; ACA/PACFA for counsellors)
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, with ability to engage young people and carers
• Knowledge of local youth mental health services and networks
• Experience with biopsychosocial assessments, referrals, and care coordination

About the Service

The headspace program's mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young Australian's aged 12 – 25. This includes providing funding to improve services for young people who may be experiencing mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues and the latest information about these important health issues for young people.

About the role

We are seeking an engaging, approachable and youth-focused Youth Access Clinician for a part-time (2 days / week) fixed-term role through to 30 June 2027. Based at headspace Campbelltown, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, you will connect young people to the right supports across mental health, physical health, education, employment and alcohol and other drug services, helping them achieve positive and meaningful outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in engaging young people in the services and activities of the service, gathering relevant client information, and conduct biopsychosocial assessments and screening of young people referred to or accessing headspace
• Conduct psychoeducation, brief interventions, skills building, and supportive counselling to young people as a stand-alone intervention and/or to support their transition to psychology.
• Assist in the referral of young people to appropriate services either within headspace or other community agencies. Provide information to clients and carers regarding the nature of mental health and substance use problems, other information services available and how to access these.
• In collaboration with the young person's care-coordinator, provide 3 monthly follow up assessments for young people with emerging mental disorders
• Work with a high level of independence and autonomy in coordination and administration of a busy youth mental health service.

What you'll bring

• Relevant Tertiary Qualifications (Allied Health or counselling Disciplines)
• Fully registered health professional with mental health experience: AHPRA for Registered Nurse, Occupational therapist, Clinical/registered Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist; AASW for Social Workers; ACA or PACFA for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving, advocacy and negotiation skills including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with young people, family/carers, workers and other agencies
• Current knowledge of the health needs of young people and the local youth, mental health and alcohol and other drug agencies and networks.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment/screening of clients and their carers and the ability to develop understanding/knowledge of determining care needs and assist clients to access necessary services.
