Job summary

Australian Amalgamated Terminals (AAT) in Port Kembla is seeking casual Yard Operators. You will operate forklifts, lash and restrain cargo, and move loads in a busy terminal yard.

The role requires a current LF forklift licence, CoR understanding, and a strong safety mindset. Flexibility for weekend shifts and access to reliable transport to Port Kembla are essential.

Qualifications

• Current forklift licence (LF) with hands-on experience.
• Understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
• Physically capable of repetitive manual work including lashing and housekeeping.
• Strong safety focus and ability to follow procedures in a live port environment.
• Reliable, punctual and a good team player.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends.
• MSIC or willingness to obtain one.
• Reliable transport to Port Kembla.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift across the terminal yard as a core duty.
• Lash and lash cargo as required.
• Load and restrain cargo in line with CoR and load restraint requirements.
• Maintain housekeeping in yard, wharf and work areas.
• Assist with cargo receival, delivery and yard movements.
• Support other general port tasks and work around vessels and heavy vehicles.

AAT is Australia's largest motor vehicle, RoRo and mixed cargo terminal operator. Our Port Kembla terminal handles motor vehicles, general cargo, containers, break bulk, steel and project cargo across a busy multi-purpose port environment.

We're looking for Casual Yard Operators to join our Port Kembla operations team.

About the role

Your day-to-day duties will include:

• Forklift operations across the terminal yard (core part of the role)
• Lashing and unlashing of cargo
• Loading and restraining cargo in line with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and load restraint requirements
• General housekeeping duties — keeping the yard, wharf and work areas clean, tidy and safe
• Assisting with cargo receival, delivery and yard movements
• Other general manual terminal tasks as directed
• Working safely around vessels, heavy vehicles and moving plant

About you

• Current forklift licence (LF) with hands-on experience — essential
• Understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law, including safe loading and load restraint
• Physically fit and comfortable with repetitive manual work, including lashing and housekeeping tasks
• Strong safety focus and ability to follow procedures in a live port environment
• Reliable, punctual and a good team player
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, in line with vessel schedules
• MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card) or willingness to obtain one
• Reliable transport to Port Kembla

Dogging, rigging or other high-risk work tickets would be a bonus but are not required.
