Job summary

We are seeking an organised, hands‑on Yard Manager to take ownership of our scaffold yard operations and play a critical role in supporting projects across Sydney.

This position is responsible for managing scaffold inventory, coordinating daily dispatch and returns, maintaining equipment, leading yard staff, and ensuring the yard operates safely and efficiently. You will work closely with our Operations, Logistics, and Estimating teams to ensure materials are available, compliant, and ready for site delivery.

About the Role

As Yard Manager, you'll oversee all day‑to‑day yard operations, ensuring scaffold equipment is accurately tracked, properly maintained, and efficiently distributed to support project delivery.

You will be the central point of control for inventory management, logistics coordination, equipment inspections, and yard safety while leading a team that keeps operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory & Stock Control

• Manage and maintain accurate stock records for scaffold materials, accessories, and equipment.
• Conduct regular stocktakes and reconcile inventory records.
• Track materials dispatched to and returned from sites.
• Investigate stock discrepancies, shortages, and losses.
• Forecast material requirements and coordinate procurement to meet project demands.
• Manage replenishment of consumables and replacement stock.

Yard Operations

• Organise and maintain an efficient yard layout to maximise productivity and storage capacity.
• Coordinate the loading and unloading of trucks for daily site deliveries and collections.
• Ensure materials are prepared accurately and on time for project requirements.
• Liaise closely with drivers and site teams regarding delivery schedules.
• Oversee the prompt processing, inspection, and restocking of returned materials.

Equipment Maintenance & Quality Control

• Inspect scaffold components and equipment for damage, wear, and compliance.
• Remove defective equipment from service and coordinate repairs or replacement.
• Maintain maintenance records for forklifts, lifting equipment, and yard plant.
• Ensure all equipment servicing and inspections are completed in accordance with company requirements and Australian standards.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the yard.
• Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, company policies, and safe work practices.
• Conduct toolbox talks and regular yard safety inspections.
• Monitor safe stacking, storage, load restraint, and manual handling procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard‑free work environment.
• Verify operators hold appropriate licences and competencies.

Team Leadership

• Lead and supervise yard personnel, allocating daily tasks and priorities.
• Train team members in material handling, stock control, and equipment inspection procedures.
• Foster a positive, high-performance team culture focused on safety, accountability, and efficiency.
• Support operational planning by providing accurate stock and availability updates.

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain inventory records, inspection documentation, maintenance logs, and stock reports.
• Provide regular reporting to the Operations Manager on stock levels, equipment status, and yard performance.
• Collaborate with Estimating and Operations teams to ensure upcoming projects are adequately resourced.

About You

Essential Experience

• 3 to 5+ years' experience in a yard, warehouse, stores, logistics, or materials management role.
• Experience within scaffolding, construction, industrial hire, or a related industry highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience managing inventory and stock control systems.
• Previous experience supervising or leading a small team.

Essential Qualifications

• Construction White Card.
• Current Driver's Licence.
• Forklift Licence (LF) or willingness to obtain.

Desirable Qualifications

• Working at Heights Certification.
• First Aid Certificate.
• Experience operating forklifts and managing lifting operations.
