Job description

Lead the team. Drive performance. Make your mark.
Permanent Full-Time | Monday to Friday

Are you an experienced Heavy Diesel professional who knows what it takes to run a successful workshop? Someone who can lead people, drive productivity and deliver results without compromising on safety or quality?

BTP is looking for a strong, hands-on Workshop Supervisor to take ownership of our Mackay workshop operations.

This is an opportunity to put your experience to work, influence operational performance and build a team that takes genuine pride in what they do.

About BTP

For over 35 years, BTP has been a trusted name in Australia's mining, earthmoving and construction industries, delivering quality equipment, parts, component rebuilds and specialist maintenance services.

With operations across WA, QLD and NSW, we combine extensive industry knowledge with practical, cost-effective solutions that keep our customers' equipment moving.

As BTP enters an exciting new chapter, we're focused on strengthening our operations, investing in our people and continuing to deliver the quality and service our customers rely on.

About the Role
Great workshops don't run themselves. They need great leaders.

As our Workshop Supervisor, you'll play a pivotal role in leading the day-to-day operations of our Mackay workshop, ensuring our people, processes and resources work together to deliver outstanding results.

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you'll oversee our MRC and CRC service teams, driving safety, operational efficiency, quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

This isn't a position where you'll simply allocate jobs and monitor progress. We're looking for someone who can see the bigger picture, identify opportunities to improve performance and take the initiative to make things happen.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Lead and inspire your team: Provide clear direction, mentoring and support to our tradespeople, Leading Hands and apprentices, creating a workplace built on accountability, respect and teamwork.
  • Drive workshop performance: Plan, prioritise and coordinate daily maintenance, component rebuild and repair activities to deliver work safely, efficiently and within agreed timeframes.
  • Champion safety: Lead by example, proactively identify and manage risks, and ensure all work complies with company procedures, customer requirements and critical safety standards.
  • Maximise productivity: Monitor labour utilisation, job costs, work in progress and workshop efficiency to achieve operational and commercial objectives.
  • Deliver quality outcomes: Maintain high workmanship standards, manage warranty concerns and rework, and ensure our customers receive the service and reliability they expect.
  • Develop your people: Coach and mentor team members, conduct performance reviews, address challenges constructively and identify future leaders within the business.
  • Build strong relationships: Work collaboratively with customers, suppliers, OEM representatives and internal stakeholders to resolve challenges and deliver practical solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for growth: Contribute to operational planning, process improvements and initiatives that reduce costs, improve efficiencies and support business growth.
You’ll have the autonomy to influence workshop performance, the responsibility to maintain high standards and the opportunity to make a real difference to our Mackay operations.
About You
Technically capable. Commercially minded. Respected by your team.

We're looking for someone who brings more than technical experience to the table. You understand the pressures of a busy workshop, know how to balance competing priorities and have the confidence to make decisions, manage difficult conversations and hold people accountable.

Importantly, you know how to get the best out of people without losing their respect.

To be successful, you’ll bring:
  • A recognised Heavy Diesel Mechanical trade qualification, with a minimum of 5 years' post-trade experience.
  • At least 2 years' supervisory experience, ideally within heavy mobile equipment, mining, earthmoving or a heavy equipment dealership environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, component rebuilds, equipment maintenance and workshop processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing workshop productivity, labour utilisation, job costs and operational performance.
  • Experience managing warranty-related issues, workmanship quality and rework.
  • Proven leadership capability, including performance management, staff development, coaching and resolving workplace challenges.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage fluctuating workloads and changing customer priorities.
  • Effective communication skills, with the confidence to engage people at all levels.
  • Intermediate computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, and experience working with workshop management or reporting systems.
  • Relevant QMS training or qualifications (QMS 1/2/3 or equivalent).
  • A current C Class Driver's Licence and an unwavering commitment to safety.
Highly regarded:
  • Experience working within a Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi or similar heavy equipment dealership or OEM environment.
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar SIS and dealership parts and service processes.
  • Experience supporting operational improvement initiatives, customer relationships and business growth.
The Leadership Qualities That Matter

We're not simply looking for someone who can run a workshop. We're looking for someone who can lead one.

You’ll be a visible, approachable and respected leader who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves, make the tough calls and support their people when it matters.

You understand that strong leadership means setting expectations, providing honest feedback, recognising good performance and creating opportunities for others to develop.

You bring the right balance of firmness, fairness and genuine people skills, with the maturity to navigate challenging situations professionally and constructively.

If you take pride in developing your team just as much as delivering results, you’ll fit right in.

Why Join BTP?
A permanent opportunity. A strong team. A chance to make your mark.

At BTP, our people are at the heart of what we do. We value practical experience, recognise hard work and encourage people who take ownership and want to make a positive difference.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Permanent full-time employment: Enjoy long-term employment stability with an established Australian mining services business.
  • Monday to Friday roster: Consistent weekday working hours from 6:00am to 4:00pm, based at our Mackay workshop.
  • Competitive remuneration: An attractive salary package reflective of your experience, technical expertise and leadership capability.
  • 12% superannuation: Paid on top of your base salary.
  • A genuine leadership opportunity: Take ownership of workshop performance, develop your people and drive positive operational change.
  • Employee Referral Program: Share $8,000 with a mate through our referral program for eligible positions.
  • Employee Assistance Program: Confidential wellbeing support for you and your family, including access to up to six free counselling sessions.
  • Perks of BTP: Access to employee benefits, subject to eligibility, including novated leasing, health insurance discounts, paid parental leave, study assistance and travel and accommodation offers.
  • An exciting future: Be part of BTP’s next chapter, contributing your experience and expertise as we continue to strengthen our operations and develop our people.
Ready to Lead from the Front?

If you’re an experienced Workshop Supervisor looking for your next challenge, or a proven Workshop Foreman or Leading Hand with supervisory experience ready to take the next step, we’d love to hear from you.

Bring your expertise. Bring your leadership. Bring your drive to make things better.

At BTP, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a team, influence results and make a lasting impact.
